Hi all, I received my insurance renual today and it's got me mega brassed off. Looking for a bit of advice as to where peeps are insuring their cars and people's experiences and tips in how to get a good price.

I'm 25 with 4 years no claims, never been in a accident etc. car is a mk1 cupra TDI

My current insurer wants £1300 quid a year, im considering chopping the car in if I can't get a good deal from elsewhere as I can't justify it anymore with a 10 month old kiddy, and a house purchase on the horizon, but I really love the car.

Any help appreciated!

im with Seat insurance, they were cheap for me, but my circumstances are different from yours.

Try the compare websites then go direct to the cheapest company, sometimes comes out cheaper ;)

Aviva, Direct Line and Privileged have been cheapest for me over the years

direct line and privledge are the same underwritter UK Inurance a very big group, Aviva again a big company an my suggestion of Seat insurance is Alliance. the advantage of these is that if the worst happens and you need the insurance they are reputable companies

sometimes cheapest is not the best when it comes to a claim

May be the same underwritter but give very different quotes in my experience.

At the end of the day if you want to save money you need to shop about, even play the companies against one another...

couldnt agree more.

it depende on what customers each company wants when you call them

Try autonet.com these have been good for me for the last couple of years.

Renewals always go skywards!

I'm with Hastings, and the missus is with Diamond (although Admiral came up with the same price for a bloke).

Re. comparison sites - personally I have found the meerkat one IS generally cheaper than all the others.

20, 4yrs ncb (did bonus accelerator with elephant). Im fully comp paying £860 on fr tdi. I never use comparison sites, go straight to elephant for me

Im also 25 with 4 years no claims. I'm insured with admiral, I added both my parents (they both have 9years+ no claims) and I'm insured fully comp for 10 months for 700 odd, with modifications declared.

Admiral always been cheapest for me. I added my Mother and Sister thinking it would bring the price down but they wanted an extra £17.50 admin fee and the price stayed the same :D

Admiral multicar for me. Im 22, the misses is 23. Both have our own car with 10000 miles a year each, both covered on each others both fully comp, £900 a year.

22 with 2 years ncb both mum and dad on as named drivers and 8 points declared 4k a year I think I shall need to sell up ohhh n that's 3rd party fire n theft!!! With admiral and they had the cheek to put my insurance up to 6500 and they told me I had been dq for drink driving and had 11 points wjich was total bull sh1t

Thanks for the replys peeps, some useful info there. One thing that has come to light from the responses is that I'm paying a lot more than people with a similar car and of a similar age, I'm wondering now whether it's the crime rating for my area that's affecting price. Gonna ring around some of the suggested company's early in the week and see what feedback I get. Will let u know my findings.

Cheers

That's what they said to me!!! insurance price stays the same but u get charged admin fees. What I then did was go online and get an elephant quote (the same company) and found theirs was way cheaper, rang them and gave them my admiral ref. Haggled from there.

I've been insured with Sky for the past two years, they are specialised in modified/sports cars, or try any insurance sponsor on here. If you have or want to modified your car people like direct line wont touch you.
If you want to stay with your current insurer, get couple of quotes and call them back as they are likely to match it.
saved £150 last year, even if my current 1.9TDI cost me more than my previous 3.5 V6 due to the bigger power increase.
