..And the current train of thought is to trade in my current car for either a Cupra or a Boc. Having just looked at the insurance quotes, can anybody tell me why (all else being equal) the Boc is gonna cost me £300 more per year to insure than the Cupra? Am I to assume my original thoughts that it was a paint/trim job difference only were wrong?

Cheers,

The cost increase will be down to the information SEAT provided to the Insurers for repair costs.

The front bumper gets painted twice. Body colour, then black - so twice as dear to paint

It's been different from the off, so it's not down to demographics or 'attractive' looks

Try using the number plate rather than manually typing in bocanegra etc, as with my insurance it was cheaper to do this as the numberplate brings up cupra. There's no difference between cupra and boc other than cosmetics.

But if your V5C states Bocanegra, and you insure as a Cupra - technically your insurance is invalid.

The number plate entry is just to make life easier, the onus is still on you to check the information is 100% correct

Mechanically IDENTICAL. Just the front paint job and some logos here and there. But then using that logic why not get an fr for 1500 less and another couple of hundred less on insurance. Still mechanically identical bar the position of the tailpipes and springs. Most people lower it anyway because of how high it sits. Obviously its only mapped to 150bhp as opposed to 180 but if you planned on mapping it anyway it makes no difference. Good if you have a switchable tuning device and a bad driver as your mrs so when she borrows the car you can quickly detune it to 150bhp. I had to go with my head and got an fr

i think its also because there where alot more bocs than cupra's when they first came out, so statistically more have been crashed, broke into etc and they have a higher RRP price

The FR seems to be more expensive than the cupra to insure for most people when they've got quotes.

My 1.6tdi is more expensive to insure than a cupra for me.

FR and Boc cost more than the Cupra :)

I'd get the Cupra if I was you and then get the front bumper painted for say £75-£200... save money straight away :)

interesting* use of statistics there.

*interesting = flawed. As on this basis an astra diesel would be more to insure than a ferrari.

more have been involved in insurance claims, it IS a fact.
iam sure cupras will overtake soon enough

i have worked in the insurance industry and have seen these statistics and also how they calculate the premiums

so you also know more astra diesels have had insurance claims than ferrari daytona's.. so the astra costs more to insure?

No.

saying more bocs were sold and therefore more have crashed so thats why they cost more doesnt add up statistically.

However, if you are saying the boc has a higher claim rate car for car, (IE using statistics correctly) then fair enough. But this isnt what you said.

Just for a quick one, did a quote for an FR, turns out the Cupra is the cheapest of the three to insure bizarrely. On another note, had a quick scan of the forums for potential problems, can anyone clear up the muddy water around the whole fuel pump/injectors/ fuel starvation problem after a remap?? Or is this a general problem that Seat have had? A little worrisome from the reliability standpoint...

I never said that, obviously the Ferrari would be more as its market value is considerably more, I don't see your problem, the guy asked a simple question, when I said it also has a higher RRP I was saying that as an entirely different entity to the amount of statistical claims made against the two cars.
