Cupra Born 2022 Suspension Strut Dust Cover

My Cupra Born has just reached its third birthday, and was treated to a pre-inspection at the dealership.
The cagey service assistant advised that the dust cover required replacement, when asked where this was, he pointed to the front mudflap.
The service engineer showed me the report and said that the front shock dust cover had split and would cost over £400 to replace as was advisory.
I took the car to a local garage who was surprised that the car may fail its first MOT. Looking at the dust cover it was quite thin and looked as if pulled off the top of the suspension (splitting at a fold). The garage mechanic pulled the cover over the top of the strut. The dealership did MOT the car, but this was done externally.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, I would not expect parts to fail so quickly, thoughts anyone.
