I have a Leon 1.2 tsi which is a 12 plate and has done 2000 miles from new.
Today I heard a little rattle coming from the engine bay and I have heard about turbo issues with this engine so want to know what others think.
The noise is as the revs drop and it is like a metallic rattle.
I can't get the link to the video so please follow the link and view the video on the photobucket site.
Thanks!

Don't think it is a turbo issue. The way you were revving it, the turbo would still have been spinning fast (takes about 10 secs to slow down) and the rattle was always as the revs dropped near to idle speed. Sounds like it may be a loose heat shield or similar and it's the vibration at a certain engine speed that's causing it to rattle.

But the noise is right at the end of the rev as the revs drop to normal even if I only rev it once and loose off.
Everything is connected as should be and nothing feels loose so I'm confused. It does sound from the turbo area and I have only noticed it today.

The only constant with the rattle was that it was only as the revs dropped back to near idle speed. As the turbo takes a lot longer to slow down than the engine, the way you were revving it, the speed of the turbo would not have changed a lot during the test. To me, that suggests it's connected to the engine speed. It sounds like a metallic vibration.
For peace of mind, take it back to the dealer, that's what the warranty is for.

Might be the attuator spring. . .

How could I find out if it's the actuator spring?
I know a trip to the dealers is best but my dealer is 10 miles away so trying to get it down to one or a couple of ideas that I can check before making the trip is a lot easier and I need my car everyday!
Thanks guys, the things I've seen on the internet talk about a software update and 1mm shim on the turbo but surely this should of been done in march when it was new if it was needed?!

If the rattle noise is only apparent at idle then i think its the same as mine. I cant view the video, says you havent uploaded any?

Anyway i asked my dealer to check the noise, i kind of describe it as a very quick ticking noise. They said its completely normal for the 1.2TSi

Problem solved!
Most 1.2 tsi engines require a 2mm spacer to be fitted onto the wastegate which my car has not had done which is causing the noise.
Booked in for 28th may for the work to be done which may I add SEAT knew needed doing!

Not quite solved, Friend of mine had the spacer fitted, luckily before any damage was caused, but, whislt it improve's it slightly, the spring still rattle's, and I doubt there's a fix for this, yet, will find out soon as he has booked it back in. . .

Ahh i guess this is what the recall was on my car last month, something with the wastegate acutator. It made no difference to the engine noise for me!

Seat leon 1.2tsi rattle when idle (fixed)

Before I start i'm no expert. I had the same problem with mine. Exact same car and engine. Its a metal rattle / vibration sound at idle when revs drop. Mine was under warranty so took it to Seat this morning. What it was: fuel line was vibrating against a panel. There is another clip that you can use to house the fuel line. Mechanic relocated mine and its alot better than it was but still rattles the odd time. If it gets really bad again i'm taking it back. Apparantly its common on this type of car. If its still under warranty take it back its covered! I hope this helps :D

i had a fabia 1.2tsi and had no end of problems. one of which was a vibrating sound. i managed to locate the problem myslef in the it came from a vibrating fuel line as mentioned above. i you held the line the sound would stop. the dealer put some foam down the channel where the two pipes were located and it stopped. i mentioned no end of problems and would say to anyone with a 1.2tsi to listen for cam chain failure. on starting if the car sounds grogy for anything more than one second or so theres a strong chance of the cam chain failing. my problem got steadily worse until i took it to the dealer and forced them to do a complete replacement. they then admited its a big problem on the 1.2tsi models. apparently when the oil was changed on the old parts, the chain was left suspended and stretched, causing the start of the problem. i also encountered the same turbo problem, but it was cured by the wastegate plate and new software. prior to selling the car the oil seals were leaking quite badly on what was a 3 year old car with hardly any over exuberant use.

Mine had the waste gate done under warranty.

I also had a leaking injector which after much discussion with SEAT UK, was eventually replaced under warranty.

It started making bad noises if I'm honest which I was worried about and with it getting close to being out of warranty I wasn't sure I wanted to own it much longer.
