If you are suffering of bad fuel you would see high timing pull on channel 20 with VCDS. Get yourself a VCDS or borrow one and log channel 20 on the engine module with VCDS and let us know what it is.
but the timing pull could be related to anything
it could also be related to the fact that the boost is set too high and the ecu is pulling the timing back to compensate.
or his timing is too high for the set up of his car.
his car needs proper logging , over 2 or 3 runs , checking boost , fuel , maf , timing and also afr , otherwise there will be so real constructive reason why his car is not performing.
On the fuel side i used to run v power all the time religously , even if i had to drive a way to get to a shell station i would do it.
Then i heard about using tesco momentum , i thought give it a go and there is no difference in performance at all or mpg.
The only time you may notice any difference is in winter depending on what additives the different companies use in their fuel , Tesco always make a bold statement about additives at the pumps.
tbh it sounds like the tuner didnt have a clue what he was talking about when he told him about the fuel , even if he was using bog standard 95 rated ron fuel he still should have noticed a day and night increase in performance as long as the car was set up correctly.
- Real way to test is to dyno it and see the difference with live map tuning, change the settings etc...rob i agree. Several conditions will affect the timing pull.
Did not read the complete thread and was assuming that fuel quality had been pinpointed.
Check SPS settings and fault codes first i would say.
Check AFR, Timing Pull and Maf values.
For boost leaks check block 115, delivered and specified boost should not differ more then 100 mbar on full throttle.
Or just dyno as Dave states.
there words not mine
"there is better fuel out there"
me "what would you suggest as i use tesco premium"
them
"Shell V-Power for best results"
so, just so they cant turn around and say its my fuel i will go out of my way to get Vpower! so thats crossed off the list. and then ill try it again with momentum (if changing the fuel and mapping for the Vpower makes the difference)
i've just removed the P-Flo and installed it again, making sure everything is all tight and secure, checked everything i could whilst parked up on the road and it seems fine.
i will have to check the DV when im back in work on a ramp, i have a cam follower in my tool box so i plan on fitting that on Sunday too when i have a spare few hours.
he asked me what fuel im using because he cant use a higher setting on the timing.
i told him i use "tesco premium stuff"
which he replied "there is better out there, use Vpower. untill then i cant make the setting higher"
my nearest shell is 15 miles away.
i dont know what to do :/ i feel gutted.
you do know that 'premium' is normal unleaded dont you.
So if you said you use tesco premium you have said you use 95ron ordinary supermarket fuel and so this is probably why hes set it so low, timing 3 sounds about right for normal unleaded.
timing 6ish for super.
You should feel the difference pre and after mapping easily, its quite different, but as mentioned before was it mapped previously?
As far as i know it had not been modified in anyway. Surely they could tell if a map was installed previously?
Would changing the timing from 3 to arge, 6/7 (they said thats about right when running v) make a difference in feel/performance?
Im not too hot on how this works...as you can see lol.
My timing is currently 3
Boost 6
Fuel 9
When they map it again for v power will it just be a case of changing the timing then?
What advantage does this make so i can try to look out for it.
Maybe there is confusion with the dealer, as 'premium' often refers to 95 Octane grade fuel.
Think im inclined to agree.
Not being set for the right grade of fuel would hold it back?
