If the clutch is being done it makes sense to have the diff fittede while the box is out.
Baffled sumps arent essential but nice if its seeing more track action

I'd defiantly fit a diff while the box is out. I had no dout in my mine that I was going to have one fitted when my was out. They're amazing and not the expensive if you're having a new clutch/flywheel fitted at the same time. The levels of grip are are much higher than I imagined they would be and understeer and wheel spin are virtually none existent.
I'm very surprised that they are not more widely used on our cars? Especially as cars like the Renault sport Megans and RS Focus have utilised them so well. Plus brought about the steady demise of the Impreza and EVO. I would never by a hot hatch again with out one fitted.
They're fantastic everyone should have one.

Was going to say very very similar words but didn't want to be flamed by everyone on here lol. Just cos you buy a 'better' car does not mean the modifying bug stops nor does that mean its gonna be 'perfect' from the factory.

As car enthusiasts you will probably get into a M3 and think 'hmmm this could be improved on' etc etc. best thing is to never start the ball rolling. Just let the car be imperfect instead of perfect.

100% agree. Try modifying a car knowing you have OCD!! A nightmare....Improving everything it's missing, needed, or noticing all scuffs, marks etc. always tell myself to leave it be, but I can't

Haha no worries Tom. I think it's awesome that you've gone so far with your car but at the same time kept it in show room condition, fast & clean is the way forward! In respect to your car and now you're keeping it + house I'd save a little harder for that clutch and LSD togther due to the £ savings long term. One bit of advice I can give you for having your own place is that whatever you think you'll spend to furnish it, add on about another £500 - £1000, so that labour saving for your LSD will help . It's hard to have your own place & decent car but in no way is an LCR a compromise, they still look awesome and my eye is still drawn. I actually considered another one and pocketing a few £k from the BMW, going all out like james.l but I just don't think I'll find another one like my old one and it'd be too painful to modfy it all over again knowing I'd already done it once.

This said...I wonder how my old LCR is going? I miss it.

Saying that with my departed 335d and now with the S4 you still want to modify because you know what effect it had on previous cars when you do so. Difference is the options are far less or should I say the attainable options are far less due to costs. The cars also need less fettling with because they are machines out the box.

Intake for the S4 your look at £400 minimum but it will add another 12-5BHP
Remap £1000 but it will add another 90BHP,
lowering springs another £400 for better ride height
Exhaust nearly 2k with all the trimmings
Bigger brakes another £1k or more

Point I am trying to make is the more premium a car is the less it needs doing to it but the more it costs. Even if Tom spend another 1k for diff and god forbid the car gets trashed it will still work out cheaper.

Thing is maz, diff, rods, and SMF mods are for cars that people are gonna keep forever and ever more. But t0m has already said he is gonna get a big car in a year or two so is that monumental cost really worth it? It's what I'm deciding right now

On your S4, the prices of mods are crazy, but having been in your car I can safely say you don't need to go out and do them. Although it would make your car seriously quick and capable of wiping some higher end cars...

They are some monumental cost for parts, almost on par with M3 mods I'd say. I'd be expecting Akrapovic for £2000 personally. As for £400 on springs, that's a hell of a lot of money for something that will make the ride worse, I daren't ask what a decent coilover kit or Bilstein shock/spring package costs.

You're right though, the more expensive and higher performing the car is the more it costs to mod from the outset but the gains from modification are still there, they're just bigger (LCR 210/225 Stage 2 = +90/75bhp, 135i/335i 306bhp Stage 2 = +125-135bhp). I'd agree that they are machines out of the box however, as you say, you know what tuning can get you and if 400+bhp can be had at a sniff then you're going to chase it. Personally I can say that the 135i now is quick enough for me, compared to my LCR (which was really quick) it's in another world & I've clenched my arse on a few occassions but, knowing I can get another +60-70bhp/+60lbs-ft with Stage 2 mapping and two bolt-ons, I just cannot resist...it could be the death of me mind you (touch wood that's not the case ).

The car will be getting a needed clean tomorrow inside and out ready for the AmD RR day on Sunday! Really looking forward to it. Made some good friends on here with similar cars and I know the banter will kick off left right and centre on Sunday

Not sure whether to run the old girl on the rollers.. Not interested in figures tbh, might just see if I can get it to flame again on boost as it did the last time it was on (t is going to be hot on Sunday).

30 degrees, sunshine and free bacon rolls. Should be a good day and great company as always.

Pop down and say 'Hi' if you haven't planned to do anything on Sunday. Will be some sweet rides on show
