Hello

random one here. one of my best mates has an M3 and is getting worried that a Stage 2+ Cupra/golf ED30/S3 might be just as quick if not quicker.

hes that worried hes selling up and getting an M5 but thats by the by.

from the lines i would expect the M3 to whoop it but lets say 30mph upwards what would the outcome be??

just curious

Cheers Lee

I think the stage 2+ cars have the edge going by other forum members duals, i know you can rip the E46 6 cylinder one a new ring piece

Was that a laugh at the comment or the probability of the M3 ripping the 2+ leon a new ring? Ive never had a blast with an E90 M3 so wouldnt know but a few on here have:p

I had a cheeky play with a E93...soft top M3 (private!)

Bare in mind, my car wasn't 100% at the time with a broken camshaft but it kept up for awhile until top end after that its all about the M3 (expected to be honest)

I would think the outcome would be alittle different but I still think that the M3 would still be quicker... (that's after having new camshaft and new tune etc)...

Drive safe!

The e46 m3 is not as quick as people make out. Me in my mk1 LCR and a mate have had a few plays and its neck and neck and he "supposedly" has an extra 80bhp on me.

As for a stage 2+ car and new M3 I doubt there would be much in it tbh. M3 may start pulling once past 130+. Stage 2+ cars vs e46 M3 is just comical.

I had a little go with and E46 the other day. And I was very suprised! We got up to about 120 and I was right behind him the whole way!

Now the most surprising part is I have a stock map...

This is from wikipedia:
Similar to the previous M3 generations that introduced a new engine, the fourth generation M3 did the same: the BMW S65 engine. The S65B40 is a naturally aspirated, high-revving 4-litre V8 that is based on the 5-litre S85B50 V10 that powered the E60/E61 M5 and the E63/E64 M6.
It delivers 414 bhp (309 kW; 420 PS) at 8300 rpm,[33] with peak torque of 295 lb·ft (400 N·m) at 3900 rpm,[33] which represents a power increase of 22% over the E46 M3

My boss has a 62 plate M3 and I have a fairly fast Leon. Lets just say I would sooner have the BMW even if my car might be as fast or faster than it.

Also remember M3/M5 owners buy those cars for more thab just speed. the badge/prestige/look/fanny magnetism/note/comfort/interior and handling/performance is all better out the box. The lads and lasses driving them relish people in inferior cars trying to prove themselves - and remember that they may well have modified their car too with them getting that but older now ;)

Oh and when my boss runs his car in I may be in a position to let you know what happens :)

I think that Stg2+ cars have less bhp but a Turbo...
so I expect to see the M3 V8 fly away afetr 140 mph to 180 (Italian 300 kmh)
An 8300 rpm with a lot of power will fly at high speed, our big torque and turbo help us at the beginning

whitout speedlimiter M3 reach 300 kmh, stg+ car I don't think

thats what I think and see

have you been in the new M3? to be honest i wasnt a BMW lover but the M3 is just class. the ride is second to none. firm but compliant with the bumps. no rattles from dash the build is just spot on. the smoothness of the power.

honestly one tasty car
