I'm talking about the single, usually phillips head bolt that holds the brake disc on to the hub once you've removed the wheel. (see part #1 on the image below)

The original one seems to be made out of cheese and so once I've drilled the currently stripped one out, I would like to replace it.

I've had a look and can't find any size specifications for the bolt to fit in there. What is it? I can only guess an M6 countersunk something?

Any suggestions on where to get some from?

Ok, might have found the answer to my own question.

Called the local dealers and apparently its an M6x16, £0.28 each!

I'll post it here for anyone's future reference.
 
Can you get these bolts in any hardware shop?

I am due a brake disc and pad change but remember the last time I loosened and then tightened this little retaining bolt i rounded it off nicely!

Is M6x16 a known type?

I tapped mine out with a drift and when putting it back in tapped down the other side.
 
Noticed today that when they did the rear brakes last year they snapped both of them to go with the missing one from the front. That's as well as twist the rear piston rubber in knots!

If they are M6 x 16 you can buy 5 here for £1.20

You can even buy 50 for £3.10 which is a lot cheaper than a fiver for 4

A stainless steel screw is at risk of galvanic corrosion from contact with cast iron. Mind you, so is carbon steel. I wonder if the OEM screws are made of something unusual or they just expect them to corrode. I've not had any trouble with any of mine so far (famous last words).

They are only to hold the disk in place and not take any braking strain so strength isn't as important.
 
I always use an impact driver on these on any car I work on, I think they universally made of Swiss cheese.
I'd not use a stainless version as if it snaps or rounds off you'll have hell of a time getting it out again and the galvanic corrosion won't help either.
