ARB Advice

Hi,

I am looking to get a set of ARBs for my LCR before I go away end July. However, my finances have (or are about to) take a heavy hit from a new clutch.

I am aware that with the stock exhaust the only RARB that would fit is the Neuspeed. I was looking at getting a Neuspeed 28mm for the rear and the 25mm for the front (Yes I have searched and read some threads).

My questions are; will the 28mm fit with the stock exhaust due to its size and if I can't drum-up the cash, would it be worth just getting the RARB or would it make the car completely unbalanced with the front being too soft in relation to the rear? If I'm going for the 28mm will I realistically need to do the front at the same time?

Im not sure about figment with the 28mm bar, but what I can say is that putting just the rear one shouldn't unbalance the car, I read a few threads before I brought mine and alot of people really rate having just RARB so if need be just stick the back one on for now. I like to think of it this way, sticking both on at the same time means you need to spend more money the next time you want to stick a handling mod on where as doing just the rear now leaves some time to appreciate the RARB and then fit the front of you know what I mean.

What car have you got?

Theres a variation in sizes of farb

Fr / cupra has 23mm farb
Lcr has 19mm farb

Im running an lcr 19mm farb with neuspeed 28mm rear on my fr tdi!

Not true, a Whiteline rear ARB will fit with the standard exhaust - I have this on my LCR. Get the 24mm adjustable one, it's about £170 from DPM Performance.

I also changed my front ARB for a 23mm Mk4 Golf R32 one, it's a straight swap. That cost me about £120 (including some bolts and bushes) from my local VW dealer. I did the front one first so I can't say what the rear one is like in isolation but between the two I feel next to no body roll at all.

I was told about the Whiteline ARBs being very good but wasn't sure about the fitment, which is what put me off. However, will it be stiff enough compared to the 28mm if the car potentially going to see some track use? Or will the 28mm be too stiff for comfortable everyday use making the 24mm Whiteline a better all-round choice?

Ive always run stock front with a 24mm rear and its very balanced. Id imagine the LCR is the same

I had just the Nuespeed 28 mm for along time on the middle setting and its a very good mod. I've now also fitted a 25 mm front and if I'm honest I prefer it with just the rear fitted. Have a look on eBay as they come up from time to time.

Fitment on mine is fine, very well made, everything lines up perfectly, was a doddle to fit once I got the old bolts out but that could just as easy be a problem fitting any rear ARB. It's adjustable too, so at the stiffest setting Whiteline reckon it's about as stiff as a regular 26mm or so bar, there's a chart somewhere on their website.

For me, it's not that much thinner than Neuspeed or similar but way cheaper, the extra couple of mm costing £100 extra didn't stack up for me. In daily use there's no loss in comfort, you wouldn't even know it's there until you start hustling the car a bit. The handling just feels more neutral and compliant with it there.
