Dudes, any help would be appreciated.

Mk 1 Leon FR TDI. Have this noise sounds like a rattling/scrape type sound hard to hear over road noise. Thought it was a rear wheel bearing but there is no play at all in the wheels (front or back), I've tried spinning the wheels as fast as I can and there is no rattle from them, or vibration.

However, it seems both rear brakes 'catch' slightly on rotation (they still spin very free), but to make a noise as they spin round as one part of the discs catches the pads. I'm wondering if this is the cause. Happens in a straight line (or turning) 20-50 mph, clutch in or out (so not engine related). And still there while breaking. Dose'nt get worse on turning, or revving for the matter....

I've replaced the pads and discs on the back really recently with Pagid parts from ECP, so its not like they are worn, and the noise is still there. Tyres are less than 6 months old Vredstein Ultrac sessantas, so its not that either. Shocks don't seem to be leaking from what I can see. Pretty mystified to be honest.

Had a garages check for wheel bearings and brakes and they could not find anything.

Could the slightly catching brakes cause this noise? And why would the new discs and pads still catch? I've cleaned and reseated them so many times I can do it one armed, and blindfolded trying to fix this!!

AAARRRGGGH! Doing my coconut in.

Did you bolt the discs back onto the hub securely and you get that sound off a warped disc

Is it a sticking caliper? My old LCR has a sticky rear caliper and the inside pad on the O/S wore down much quicker, looked like loads of meat on the pads from the road, but when I changed them the inside pad was almost at the wear marker.

I just freed up the sliders and it worked fine after that.

Cheers for the replies lads.

Yeah I did, gave hub a bit of a clean too before doing it. Not amazingly tiight, but pretty secure. Pads and disc are pretty much brand new. SEems to be when the pads are re-installed that it catches...although would you hear the same sound at 50mph?? Sounds rattly/gratey with window open, but sort of rubbing/constant squeeky sound with them up??

They all seemed to be around the same meatyness, when I had a look the 2 weeks ago. Dont think the calipers are sticking, cos the wheels spin freely albeit with the slight catch noise as catches at one point of the wheel rotation. All the sliders have been fully lubed up, even the fronts.

Starting to think it might be something else, but I'm totally stumped as to what would make a grating/constant pitch rubbing noise while driving???? Cars doing my nut in with these noises! I'd have it in the garage straight away if I could pin point it...
