Can anyone tell me the exact mileage that the timing belt is due to be changed on the TFSI....its a 56 plate pre-facelift model if that helps?

If its never been done then you need to have it done ASAP!!! I'm not sure of the mileage on that engine but irrespective its advised to be done at least every 4-years, so if the original belt is now approaching 7 years old that engine is on borrowed time.
 
60000 I think of the top of my head as my car is sitting at 58000 and I am just about to look in to it to

well this is what has just struck me, when i bought the car 6 months ago from a second hand car dealer he assured me that it had been done. Without thinking i drove away with the car with no proof that it had. I was looking through service book ect tonight and realised that no boxes were ticked and there were no receipts to be found to say it was done! I have contacted a friend who is a mechanic and i have got him to do it this week for me, and the car wont be moving until then! P***ed off that they said it has been done when i am now thinking it hasnt!

You are doing the right thing as without any documentary evidence its safest to assume it has not been done. If the belt was to snap it could cause catastrophic engine damage leading to a 4-figure bill so certainly makes sense to get it changed just in case.

yeah totally, alot cheaper to get it done than taking the risk...especially since i work in a motor factors ;) I also found out when going through old receipts that it has been REVO remapped stage 1!!! I didnt even know...happy days!
 
Today on checking this issue out further, i asked a couple mates that work in the motor trade and they checked the autodata....they said that the timing belt is due to be changed at 120k miles?? Can anyone confirm or deny this?
 
I wouldn't risk waiting to 120k for any belt change regardless of what the manual says. Don't forget it is a stated mileage or 4 years between changes whichever comes first.

You already said you have no history of the belt ever having been changed so you have to assume it never has and as the car is now 7 years old that means it is well over the 4 year limit and running on borrowed time.

I would go with the recommended manufacturers change interval
4 years or 60k miles for the TFSI engine

after all its just a big elastic band keeping your valves and pistons apart.

Just to add , its also a very good idea to have your water pump changed at the same time.

Sorry to hijack thread but what about the TSI engines, I've heard they're chain driven and don't need belts or whatever changing?

chain engines still need their chains taken into consideration, just like a chain on a bike, it slackens, can sieze, collect debris etc etc.

regular servicing, good quality oil and the correct grades will make them pretty much trustworthy for the length of time you have the vehicle though.
