Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on a reasonably priced head unit to replace my Aura? I need iphone link up either via USB or by lightning lead, or a USB link up for using a hard drive or memory stick and ideally a straightforward changeover without buying lead adapters and spacers (plug n play). I do realise I probably may need spacers but if not that's a bonus!

I don't care about having a CD Player; all I really need is a radio and USB or Bluetooth, because as we all know there's nowhere to store CDS easily in the Leon mk1!

Currently I have the CD changer disconnected and have a special box that runs out the Aura and you attach phono cable to it to plug in my iPhone but this is less than ideal as I nearly crash at times fiddling with my phone to change tunes and would like to be able to see the songs and control the ipod/memory stick/HD from the head unit

Thanks a lot

Paul

I replaced mine with a Pioneer DEH-4400BT great unit with Bluetooth for phone and picks up the music of my iPhone 5 without leads just via the Bluetooth as well

Looks good! Did you have to buy a spacer or any new cables?

Thanks

For what your needs are, I would recommend a Sony Xplod head unit. I have the MEX-BT4700U. Sold it then got it back because of the simplicity of use.
Has iPod connection, also works with HDD, memory sticks, AUX, bluetooth pairing for music and calling, Hidden flip down CD player. Brilliant all round.

Thats the one however I'm not sure if this model is available anymore but there are plenty of the same type to research on.

Hope this helps :)

I have a sony as well the MEX-BT3900U http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/MEX-BT3900U/

I paid above the odds in Halfords because I had a free afternoon with the new car and just wanted to get it sorted without having to wait for delivery, but even at Halfords slightly inflated price I'm very happy with it. Bluetooth streaming works great from iphone / iPad / android phone and if you plug the iphone lightning lead into the usb port it will play over that interface too. USB also works with memory sticks, haven't tried a hard drive but would imagine it would be ok too.

Sound quality is great with the stock LCR speakers. I'd definitely recommend.

I have the Alpine UTE-72BT from Halfords - currently £76.99. The USB socket is powerful enough to charge my iPhone and Bluetooth streaming has been 100% reliable thus far.

Hadn't thought about Alpine actually. I'm umming and arring about the need for Bluetooth as I am more than happy to just plug in my phone but making calls it might be handy. I've been able to do it in the car so far just by connecting my phone in with the Jack lead so it's no major drama

Forgot to say you will need adapters though, you need the facia adapter, wiring adapter and something for the aerial, I think it was a booster?

Bluetooth feels like magic to me for music streaming, great not to have another wire trailing about. It works well for calls too although people have trouble hearing me at motorway speeds as the mic is in the facia.

Okay thanks. Yeah a booster would be good in any case! My radio and my Wife's 09 Ibiza have rubbish radio signals.

I'm appealed by Bluetooth but I think if it came down to price I could live without out; that said, there's not a lot of price difference to not have it

Fun isn't it! I had awful trouble with all the ISO parts and an aerial booster as well! I just looked at what was in there already, and what I could spread away from where the new wires were going (not take them out, just move them over) then I looked for any slight crevice I could find to fill and to be honest, in the end it just took a lot if shoving and knuckle grazing and it eventually clicked in. There is an opening into the back of the climatronic from the stereo bay and I think I did tuck a few bits down there, but was reluctant because I don't know what's behind there

I just got a Sony HU, not this one mentioned but will be similar.

Are there any instructions how to fit. I've not found anyone to do it less than £30 and I need to book an appointment but as im driving home tomorrow I want to do it now. Sick of listening to the same 5 CDs over the past few years.

I have all the parts, cables, aerial booster for dac and the facia bit.

Before I start pulling things out thought I'd check on here. Can't see anything though. Complete novice at this. Youtube draws a blank also for a mk1 leon and Sony HU

It literally takes five minutes to fit if you have the correct parts. Just need to get the aura out which is a pain without the little tools, 5 seconds with em though.
