Fitted alarm

Hi all,

On Friday night my car was broken into, although nothing of value was taken from the car. Does anybody know if the 2011 Ibiza FR has an alarm fitted as standard? It looks like they've got into the car pretty easy, there are slight marks half way down the door on the outside where the actual lock is. Looks like they've slid something inside the door and popped the lock open. I'm just wondering if it has an alarm why it didn't go off. Any info would be appreciated.

That's a worry. Mine is a 2011 5 door SE and has an alarm with interior monitoring. A 5 door FR should have it too according to my brochure for that model year. It's possible I suppose that if your's is late 2011 then the brochure may not apply since there were some changes later on that year. I'd expect a 3-door to be the same as a 5-door regarding alarms.

On mine you can see the ultrasonic transducers up in the roof next to the interior light. Can you see them on yours?

When you lock the door do you see the LED on the passenger door flash every few seconds? That is supposed to indicate that the alarm is activated.

Hello,

Yes it has the sensors on the ceiling of the car and the red LED lights flashing on the doors. I've just done a test where my dad sat in the car, I put the deadlocks on from the outside and he started moving around in the car, waving in front of the sensors etc and the alarm didn't go off. It definitely works though as I've just tried opening the car and not starting the ignition and the alarms went off

You can't use the LED as an indication of an alarm being fitted, I'm pretty sure all models fitted with central locking have the LED.

My old 10 plate sport model had the LED but no alarm was fitted to that.

Just a thought, I know others have been caught out by this but did you press the button on the remote once or twice to lock your car. One press locks it and operates the deadlocks and arms the alarm, if you press it a second time id disarms the deadlocks and switches the alarm off?

I pressed it twice, i've just done the same test with 1 press and the alarm didn't go off either

But what you have done is disable the deadlocks which will have made it a whole lot easier for the thief to get the doors open!

My friend, you are spot on. Just sat in the car for 30 secs with 1 lock on and it went off. Thank you for your help, I know for next time

It is indeed, I was just building up a rant for Seat there as well saying my alarms are useless haha

I suppose you could take the view, had the deadlocks been on the thief may well have done more damage trying to get in, grasping for positives here......lol

But according to my book if you press the keyfob twice it disables the interior monitoring and disables the deadlocks. I assumed that the alarm on the doors etc is still working - perhaps the book is wrong and the alarm is stopped completely.

I'll try an experiment. Press keyfob twice and try opening the door.......

Ok. Sat in car, pressed keyfob twice. Opened door and alarm went off.

So the thief should have set off the alarm when they opened door even though taht itself was easy due to teh deadlocks being off.

Already tried that mate, no alarms went off. I'm just shocked how easy they got in with no marks at all

Are you saying that the alarm operated by the door switch is operating or not (when deadlocks are disabled)?

There is a way on the hand book to set the alarm off. Open the car using the key but don't put it in the ignition for 15 secs, that's a way to set the alarm off

Is it possible that they tried to get in by force but then tried the handle and discovered that you forgot to lock it? Would explain the minimal marks and the lack of alarm going off

It's surprisingly easy to think you've locked a car when you haven't...

I can see the same mark on both doors where it looks like they've slid something through to push the lock open. I'm sure they lock themselves anyway after 30 seconds?

If you unlock the car but don't open a door it will lock again after about 30 seconds, but that is the only time it does it. If you get out of the car and walk away forgetting to lock the door, then it will not lock automatically.
