Hi Everyone!

Just joined this website so apologies if this is in the wrong place :)

Im looking to buy a Ibiza for my partner, We have narrowed down to the 1.4SE or the 1.6 sport.

I was kindly wondering if any of you know of the common faults or what to look for when we go to view these cars?

Is there anything in particular to look out for?

Both have low mileage and FSH.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks all

Ryan

The 1.4 and 1.6 are good engines the 1.4 se is the same as mine and it's not powerful but still does the job, the 1.4 is a good engine VW has used it for years and not really changed much, you get the odd coil pack but that's like all petrols, mine done 40000 miles now and I've changed one strut top bearing and break pads and track rods, through warranty, there good little engines as long as they are looked after, cam belt and serviced at the correct times both engines will be a good choice, although the 1.2tsi is a good option they will hold there value a bit more and they will be a bit nippier but can be a bit more to insure and buy.

Thanks very much for your reply.

It's for my partner so the 1.4 would be ideal. Glad to hear about the long serving engine. Always good to hear. I'm looking at one on the weekend. Anything to look out for? Anyccommon faults? Thanks

The only thing I can say look out for is, it's had its cam let done at 3 years of age, check coolant is pink, and check the oil is still golden, check it's still got its data sticker on the service book as well and check for spare tire, check brake pads and check hand break isn't to high, if you can get a warranty for it as it does come in handy. I haven't really heard much common stuff that you can tell off but check for noises on road test and if you shake the steering wheel at a stand still all the ibiza make the clunky noise for some unknown reason, and check your A/C is cold

Check all door locks work(lock and unlock)on key and remote fob -got stung with two locks needing replaced at £100 each on 40K 1.4.

Check for coolant leaks at bulkhead and water leaks on front footwells.

Ouch 2 locks at £100 each, robbing buggas, but yeah check under that mats and check up the passenger sides footwell for leaks and try to get there when they have washed it something so you can see that the door seals are fine, I'm sure they are but they ain't the best to replace
