Rear Wiper Arm - Snapped off by a kid!!!

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2011 plate 3 door Ibiza SportRider. Caught a child (about 8 years old) that lives close to me snap my rear wiper arm off my car!!! 6 o’clock at night last night. My car had only been parked up 20 minutes after getting home from work. Just snapped it clean off because his friend ‘Joe told him to do it!!!’

Found out from another kid on the road where he lived so went round with my snapped wiper arm & cap, his Dad said he’s always causing trouble (not the point) but did offer to pay for the damage if I got a price for him. Although looking at his Dad I’m not convinced he will, eyes were all over the place when I went round. I’m not sure he even works. Anyway went to my local Seat garage today on my lunch hour & they quoted best part of £50 for a replacement arm & cap…

I really can’t imagine that this family is going to cop the bill for this. Is there anywhere I can get a cheaper alternative rather than Seat? Although I shouldn’t have to, it should be replaced like for like with a proper one from Seat but I can’t imagine they will pay this amount? As the kid who did it is under 10 I don’t think I can even threaten to call Police about criminal damage as law protects children under 10 and the families that allow them to behave like animals out on the streets as long as they aren’t bothering them at home 

That is really bad luck and I would be wanting to give them a good kicking, kids are not taught to respect other peoples things or even lives these days, but get a copy of the quote and go and let them know and ask for the cash there and then so you can make the purchase.

Don't judge a book by its cover, they may surprise you.

It could have been worse, they could have scratched or dented the car.

I tried not to judge a book by its cover but after speaking to other neighbours it seems the same lad has caused quite a bit of problems to other people in the area... You would think his parents would have nipped it in the bud by now...

I've got a copy of the quote from Seat will go round tonight on my way home from work & see what they say. I just wasn't expecting it to be as much as that. I feel bad & awkward going round with the bill but at the end of the day his child recklessly damaged my car & should really pay for it. Hopefully after his father gets hit with a bill for £50, he'll think a bit more next time he decides to vandilise peoples property...

Like I said i'm not entirelly hopeful they will pay but hopefully they will surprise me and will do the right thing.

£50 seems a bit excessive but get the £50 off his dad and I'll post you the spare one I've got in my garage for a fiver lol

I know you may feel awkward asking for the money, but you are entitled to it and it may as you said make him discipline is child.

I would purchase one cheaper and pocket the money though

Hey evryone, went last night at the agreed time from the previous day... When I knocked his wife said he wasn't home & was very vague about when he would be back.... Anyway popped back round a couple of hours later, he was home & said he would give me the money for a replacement on Friday evening.

Will hopefully have no problems getting this once Friday comes, #FingersCrossed
