Ok, I unplugged it about an hour ago and then drove home from my mates.

My car is completely standard and it does sound A LOT quieter - that 3" spinning disc created a shed load of artificial sound. That being said, I much prefer the au natural sound. You can still hear the exhaust but you can also hear the engine. And the turbo! It's glorious!

BUT

Be warned that the procedure to get to it is not as easy as the above posted video would have you believe. My car is a FL but it's an '11 plate and it was totally different to the one in the vid. Not sure if earlier FL's are the same as the video though.

I will post a guide with pictures hopefully tomorrow.

Look forward to these pics mate

I've got a full 3" exhaust system, do you think it'll be easier to hear if I get rid of it??

Ah nah but the sound deadening in the car is mint

Started driving around with the seats down all the time now lol

ha ha i did this the other day when i went to pick up a patio set for my nan, Its amazing how much difference the rear seats make. Still quiet at tickover and cruising, but on boost :scary::D

Tools needed:

Torx screwdriver
Electrical tape

1. Open your bonnet and secure it in the upright position. Then find the black rubber weather strip at the back of the engine bay, under the windscreen. This will need to be completely removed, as below. I don't think it's fixed in place with anything other than years of engine heat.

2. Find the Torx screws located under each end of this weather strip and undo them both.

3. The metal part that these screws were holding in will now need to be lifted out.

Before you do that though, a word of advice: It will take quite some doing to remove this part, which has to be pulled toward you as it's removed. The plastic rain tray that is resting on top of this metal part will either need to be moved, or taken off. I chose to move it out of the way, but I also had my mate working one side while I did the other. The rain tray on my car wasn't brittle at all so can move and be bent a bit. The metal part really took some work to get out.

Taking off the rain tray [I think] requires removing the windscreen wipers and, given the absolute ball-ache I had a) getting this metal part out, and b) getting it back in and lined up with the rain tray enough for the weather strip to go back on, I think I would have removed the wipers, in hindsight. The weather strip now doesn't line exactly where it was before but, after a night of heavy rain, all appears to be dry under there. I may just take it all apart again this weekend to see if I get it to fit back properly.
Anyway, 2 pictures of metal bulkhead removed below:

4. The Soundaktor is the cylindrical item sitting under the rain tray with the connector sticking out of the left hand side and the white Audi label on the front:

5. To remove the connector, you need to pull the grey tab at the bottom of the connector in the opposite direction to the Soundaktor, and then unplug the thing:

6. What you do with it is completely up to you. I opted for the quick and dirty "tape it to something" method:

So, that's the fun part. Getting everything back again is a reversal of removal.

The metal part should go back first. This was a nightmare and, again, it was lucky my mate was there so we could work together. It needs to slot behind the top of the bulkhead so that the tabs that the Torx screws screwed into line back up with the holes (see 3rd picture from top). Don't forget that the rain tray sits on top of this metal part so you will need to move this out of the way to get the metal secured.

Once the metal part is in place, take the weather strip and slide it onto the lip of the metal and then over the lip of the rain tray. Work from one end to the other end.

I had a slight issue with where everything ended up - pictures below - but, after the drive home last night, a night of rain and the drive to work this morning, everything is dry and hasn't moved much, if at all.:

Some of you may be able to do all this without properly removing the metal part - that would be preferable to be honest!

Any questions, let me know.

I just know I'm going to break something...... No wiring gurus on here know where the cables for this device go?

Graham put a link in post #18 to a German site that shows the thing in VagCom for the new Leon.

Might be worth going down that route?

I've not got access to VAGCOM, if it doesn't rain later I'm going to have a look, the pics you took are helpful I just know as a 9½ fingered Brummy (expert with lump hammer and crowbar :D ) I'm going to break something. Either on the car or myself! As the wires must go somewhere I was hoping (lazily) that someone would come up with a 'snip the red wire' cure.......
