Tsi and dsg problems--->bad resale value scared people of the car. At least that's what happened in Finland. Some of the dealers dont even take cars with 1.4TSI or DSG or the price is minimal. Plus people don't like to buy cars that may need engine/gearbox replacement once a year. I ordered my Cupra because I buy my cars more with the hearth than brains.

Well we had a test drive in a 63 plate exdemo Cupra today, fully loaded except the glass roof.
Seems over priced at 16K even with 5K miles on the clock... 14 would seem closer.
What I'm now more worried about is the negative vibes I'm getting from this thread !!
Is the Ibiza Cupra a wrong'n then? .... We were looking at a 2-3 year PCP and keeping always in warranty, but still don't want to buy trouble, that know one will want in a few years time.
It would join the cars listed in the sig, as it will replace my other half's 2.2 Diesel Civic !

Sadly IMO there's better cars out there from other stables for the money. I was test driving a lot of cars while I waited for what I needed. I'd be checking out the Fiesta ST, it feels more 'hot hatch' with a nicer pair of seats
I can't see the issue in them, a few of my friends have them and there brilliant cars, Fords Fiestas just feel cheap.
the twin charged engine combined with the DSG box I wouldn't touch. Havent owned either but too many stories of problems.
Seems neither the Ibiza cupra or the Fabia vRS have been big sellers.
As i said earlier in this thread any plans for the 180bhp 1.8 and a manual gearbox on the polo/ibiza/fabia platform? That would sell much better assuming the price is right.

I take it the 2.2TDi Civic is not for fuel economy ?
Why not concider the Ibiza FR 2.0TDi and remap it up to around 200hp

Possibly because the previous versions were nice torquey diesels and the new ones are force charged petrol.
I would have had a TDi cupra in the MK5 if available but settled for an TDi FR this time around.
There have been problems with the twinchaged VAG 1.4, despite it winning a number of awards.
You do need to remember though, this engine has been put in LOADS of VAG cars, if there were any real things to worry about it would have been withdrawn long before now. I think you will be fine if you are driving it in warranty. Admittedly I would avoid owning one outside of a warranty, purely due to the cost potential, superchargers, turbos and DSGs are not cheap if you are the one fitting the bill.
EDIT: Also on the Fiesta front, it doesnt touch the cupra on looks. So if you are happy to drive around in an ugly car, all about the hot hatch feel, go down the Fiesta route, but the Cupra is much nicer to look at. Pretty sure its probably quicker in the real world, as nobody can manual change as fast as a DSG. But thats not very relevant unless you find yourself next to one at a set of lights very often...

Well as an ex ford lover, if it had an RS badge on it, I'm am open to a Ford. That said I did test drive current Fiesta about 6 months ago, 120 BHP 1.0Lt ... great engine, brilliant handling and was only a Titanium.. BUT oh it has an IP like an 80's cheap Japanese Stereo... Can't imagine the other half liking it..... The wheels look stupid small as well, the rest of the styling is OK.
The Honda for me hasn't been a pleasant drive, it's a boat, crap steering lock, does 45mpg.. clutch could be going at 40K, it's so dull and numb.
The G/F only needs to drive about 20 miles a day for work now, so diesel isn't essential. An auto box would be a good idea, she has habit of changing needlessly or the wrong gear!!!!
As much as I'd prefer to have one car, I can't think of a replacement for my two SEATS listed below !!
