Hi guys hope you are all ok. am looking at putting a bigger turbo on my 09 cupra k1 it already has a stage 1 revo remap and a few other bits bringing it to 320bhp atm i do have forged rods and pistons to put in at some point aswell but what turbos to people go for?

Cheers Ben.

It's kind of pointless having 500bhp in a front wheel drive car though?

Exactly what I was thinking, isn't this just going to shred tyres and understeer into everything? Surely a 4motion system is going to be needed from an R32 or S3?

Edit: Just seen the reply above, the reason it would be pointless is just that, you cannot get the power down. You would never get that 500bhp on the road, so you may as well have say 350bhp. You will not be faster and it will be much harder to drive, plus less fun as you will always need to be holding back. That much power in a fwd would spin the wheels all the time.

Why spend the money on power you cannot use?

4wd is boring, have you ever drove an S3 jesus the most boring car ive driven. the 4wd system take all the fun out of driving.
you do know that you dont have to drive it like you stole all the time.

I can see your point Banksy, but as Mike pointed out you couldn't put all that power down when you wanted without torque steering off into a ditch. You should reroute the power to the rear wheels and go for 500bhp!

you dont always do 1/4 mile runs and traffic light runs, where is there on uk roads you can drive like a nutjob?rolling start would keep up no problems
im going big power eventually, with all the chassis mods nearly sorted,a diff,it will be an animal, then tracking it,alot lighter than 4wd also

No of course you don't have to, but why have power that you could not use even if you did want to? I get that you want power and that's fine, I hope you end up with what you want, but I just don't think you will be happy driving on eggshells all the time, trying to gently feed in the power all the time.

By the way, a well set 4wd system will let you use all of the power and can still be entertaining to drive. Audi set up their systems to be safe and easy to drive, if a little uninspiring. You wouldn't necessarily have to do the same.

500bhp through the front would spin the wheels in every gear. A rolling start would not help. To get the power down you would need to driving at stupid speeds already, so maybe a rolling start from 125mph?

ive had this conversation in my head loads of times mike lol,was even gonna sell up and go for 4wd
for me personally it would be fine, learning to drive it without spinning up all the time would be hard, but it will be fun
theres plenty of big power fwd cars that will perform aswell as 4wd,with some sticky tyres on on track i cant see that much difference tbh unless your actually 'racing' and every little second counts

I hope that you guys prove me wrong then. Variety is the spice of life I suppose and if you can make a 500bhp fwd car work for you on the road then that can only be a good thing! Be interested in what tyres you use and how they cope in the real world.

I still reckon a rear biased 4wd system would be my choice, especially in conjunction with an extensive weight reduction programme.

When my mate had his 550bhp fwd civic on the road, he said it handle the power well, you just need to learn to feed the power on. Don't use the throttle as an on/off switch.
He now uses it as a drag car and it's 650bhp+ and is one of the fastest fwd civic in the uk.

I'm very interested to see how banksy and toosmiles get on with big turbos as when I get my house sorted this will be where I'm going to end up.
