So i just got my new Leon FR 2.0 TSI (208hp).

its a DSG gearbox and my first ever car with that gearbox - i know servicing it at 40k is needed other than that does anyoe know of any DO's and Dont's when driving with this type of gearbox.

Also i may possibly get it Remapped (most likey R-Tech), what figures did anyone with that engine get on a lets say Stage 1 and a Stage 2.

Lastly, its a 61 plate so willi have the concern about the timing chain tensioner failing on me?

i know its a long list of ASK but all help will be appreciated :D:D

No real dos and fonts from me have a 12 plate one, dsg can be laggy when cold, other than that no problems so far, mine is serviced by seat and had no major issues so far

Thats good to hear. Are you concerned about your engine needing a tensioner replacement or are our engines the revised version ones with the issue solved? Any idea.

I'm not worried about that, there is a couple of people who have had some issues around that but I'm led to believe the age of mine had the revisions made anyway

Should be problem free if the service schedule is right.

I needed to get the wastegate clip fitted to mine though because it was rattling and sounded horrible, not seen any other people here complain about that though I don't think.

Hmm just wondering if thats the rattling i hear from the drivers side and sounds like uts under the bonnet...? Could it be that. Also how much did it cost you.

Yes its directly under the dashboard/bonnet from inside the car. If you have the window open you can hear it reverberating through the exhaust to the back.

The part was released by VW in USA but over here VAG group seem to be ignoring the fix even though its a known problem.

The UK VW part number is 06J 145 220A.

I couldn't be bothered doing it myself and paid my Indie about £60 to fit it, the clip alone was about £14.

 jjust when i thought she was perfect! lol i will probably buy the part and try squeeze it in with the springs/exhaust job to save a little on labour. dont really fancy spending that much right now. is your one mapped btw? any mods?

Theres vids online on how to fit it, you just need to get underneath and remove the heat shield and it slides on.

No mines completely standard, what exhaust are you getting?

Defo a cupra R style exhaust, possibly BCS/milltek. Considering a non res cat back with an itg CAI im hoping it wont be too loud.

I would deffo look into changing the tensioner, the revised version came out in 2012 so it's unlikely yours will have that. I had it done for peace of mind, cost £450 from a Seat dealer but I have seen people had it done for less

I got a quote for a twin milltek system including diffuser a while back, I think it was £750 supplied and with free fitting.

Whats the tensioner problem? Mine is a 12 plate, will I be ok?! haha

The tensioners fail on start up and engine goes bang!
From the trawling of forums I done the newest revision was issued May 2012, so it's unlikely you'll have this one fitted, there were a few revisions made and it seems to be the first type that suffers the most.

Nope and often when it happens if the car is out of warranty the manufacturer wants nothing to do with it, sometimes after a lot of fighting and arguing they offer some goodwill contribution but usually customer pays for new engine.

im going to inspect for any rattling as for now i know the wastegate clip is needed. might have to postpone modding till im sure i want to spend money on it Damn it!

Hope I haven't put you off your new purchase but look at it this way had you bought a belt driven engine you would have been paying for a cambelt change at some point and the tensioner costs the same, if you like the car and want to keep it for a bit then £300-£500 is much better than a few grand for a new engine.

yeah i guess you have a point here. ill put aside some money for that and eventually get it gone. mileage is just above 41k now so a DSG service is due. that's 1st on the list. Thanks All for the helpout!

it should have from what was said earlier above. if anything my model missed out on the revised version by a few months.
