290 fuel economy ?

Hi all, have recently ordered a 290 and was wondering how current owners are finding the fuel economy ? I Currently have a 184 so just want to know if I'll be on suicide watch or just anti depressants when it comes to the amount of visits I'll be making to the petrol station

It all comes down to how you drive it. I regularly see 35 mpg on my commute. I have had 43 mpg on a motorway run (and I wasn't hanging around) But I have also had an average of 16mpg, but by hell was it fun!
 
Yeah I'm quite surprised by how good my 265 is when I need it to be. My 1.4TSi Bocanegra used to be decent on fuel below 70 where as the cupra is actually better on fuel on a non granny motorway run. Fair play to VW they've done a cracking job on this engine.
Obviously if you drive like a hooligan you'll be rewarded as such.

I average 35 around town but on a run at 70 you'll get in the 40s.

I'm under no illusion that it will be a once a month fill up like my 184, I have had performance cars in the past that no matter how you drive them they just drink the stuff so was just a general enquiry.

No life or death decisions here fella just trying to make it light hearted??? Who buys cars on economy figures these days anyway??? Specially from VAG

I'm hoping to get a realistic average 30mpg when I get my cupra. Much better than the 24mpg I get at the moment but as said who buys these cars for economy

Wife gets 290-300 to a tank ( or did do from 280) using it for a ten mile round trip through Brum during the week, weekends it goes further afield , depends what we have planned. On a recent run to Dorset we got 350 from a tank in the 290, but it only had 400 miles on the clock. If I go for a solo run round Welsh Wales (as you do) it drops to anything from 150-200 per tank, all depends on my mood, the roads and the weather ;)
I've said in another thread, on wife's commute there is not much difference between the Cupra and my work Passat (140 BHP as was) , it dropped Passat consumption to 34ish. I normally get 50+ on motorway work. So you might be pleasantly surprised, and no more regens either!!

I clear 300 miles easily and have has 345 once

I went to a Cupra 290 from an FR 184 too, in the FR I usually got ~50-55mpg whereas in the 290 I typically get ~38-40mpg. Daily commute is a mixture of urban and motorway driving.
 
Just about done 2000 miles in my 290 and long term MPG is 34.

I typically average between 30-35 with normal driving and 40+ with driving carefully..

That being said, last night I done a 70 mile trip - 40 miles @ motorway speeds and 30 miles of A/B roads at a quick pace, rev matching downshifts and using heal and toe (so driving pretty quick) and still got 39.3 MPG
 
So in reality it's not that bad for what it is some good figures been thrashed out here and it will just be down to how heavy your foot is?

Drive it like you stole it expect to be a season ticket holder at the petrol station but drive "sensibly" then expect some decent figures

I'm guessing it will just take a bit of adjustment to owning a petrol again? As I can see it now, I'll be there thinking I have a quarter tank left I'll be able to do a round trip to the moon and back on that whereas it will actually be ahhh hang on that won't get me there better go top up the old shell points.

Note to self: have a petrol can in boot during honeymoon period

Just been down to dealer and won't have it till October so plenty of time to get prepared

Forgot to say i can get 29's with 2 dogs in the boot 2 kids in the back and a full roof box on top.

I see you have them inside the car, looking at some of the high mpg people quote on here they must have the kids at the back pushing and the dogs in front pulling like huskies ;):D
 
I just got 700 miles out of my 1.6TDI on the last tank... anyone wanna swap? haha

Boring as it is kinda nice in my new job to be getting 65-70mpg on motorway runs.

Round town the 1.6 derv isn't actually that eco
