New owner saying hi ...and problems!

Hi All,

At the weekend I picked up a 2014 Leon Cupra 280 from a SEAT dealer.
First issue I had was the tyre pressure sensor going off about 2 miles from driving the car. Obviously straight back to the dealers. Probably my fault as the car has two new tyres which I asked them to fit to the front of the car. They said something about the ecu detecting changes or something. Anyhow that was sorted.

Off I went and decided on the way home we would stop off at a shopping center. I park up, push the lock button on the key fob and hear all the locks click.
Now this was only by chance but my girlfriend asked if all the doors were locked and I go to demonstrate that they are and I pull the rear left door only to find it opened followed very shortly by an ear piercing alarm going off.
It was at this point that I discovered anything I tried to do to lock the door failed and I could open it from the outside just by pulling the door handle.
After this I was straight on the phone to dealer which then meant another 40 mile trip to show them what is occurring. So owning the car for about 3 hours, the car is now back at the dealers awaiting inspection to see what's going on.
Is this a common fault with these cars? Has anyone experienced this?

I'm now driving around in a 1 litre Mii. Actually surprisingly a fun little car despite being 205bhp down from the car I was driving earlier in the day!!

Can't say my purchase has gone very well so far.

Never heard of the door handle issue on any MQB car...

My 2014 280. which I have had since new has had no faults or rattles and at 3.5+ years old still looks and drives like new, so you have just been unlucky. The pressure warning is great as I have had 2 rear punctures over my ownership and it picked them up instantly. The system must be reset each time you add air, fit new tyres etc, so sounds like dealership did not reset before you took it away.

I spoke to the dealer. They are replacing the locking mechanism on the door.
They are being good about it and delivering the car to me once it's repaired.

After that I might get to use it past the M25 this time

First decent fast car I've had in a while. Looking forwards to some (legal) spirited driving in it.

The salesman did ask if I was going to track it but I'm not sure how good it would be around a track? In the past I owned a VX220 that I tracked, but I''d imagine this being heavier would punish the tyres and brakes a lot more than that did.

Maybe I'll track the Mii

From the vids I have seen, EVO and Autocar its faster than both the Megane and the Golf R. Seems Steve Sutcliffe loves the thing around the track.

With PS4S tyres, wear rates are surprisingly good; I’ve done lots of road miles, fun drives and two track days and I’m still on my first set, I will hopefully get a few more trackdays and plenty of road miles on them before they need replacing...

+1 and I still love my 280, brings a smile to my face every time i take her out

What were the standard tyres for these cars? Mine is fitted with Bridgestone Potenzas

I had these on the Vx220 back in the day and they weren't too bad.

Had a door lock replaced on my week old cupra 300, so it's not unheard of. Easily fixed

Maybe it was not the Potenza S series but the RE series. Ok not as good as PS4S granted, but then again the Lexus LFA NP used Potenza REs to set their lap time.

But yes, majority rate the Potenza S series? not very highly here...
