I called a few dealers to get a price on a new 1.4 ecoTSI DSG with £1300 worth of options and the best price was £18.5k. Unfortunately this involved a 26 week wait. Does anyone have any idea how prices will change next year when the new model is released. Will there be some hefty discounts on the older model and zero discounts on the newer one?

When you say buy do you mean buy outright or lease

Have you considered when the new MK4 Comes out a 1 year old car with very low millage as I would suspect they would be good value.

Buy outright. Yeh thats prob the best value at 1 year old as it seems that depreciation is fairly straight line £1500 per year after year 1

Its what i did and then you get the rest of the seat warranty, you should talk to garages now and see if you can get the extended warranty on a used car.

Never a good time to buy a seat unless you are keeping it for 10 years. Depreciation is brutal- not helped by big front end discounts.
