Ah and that remind me @theoldboy ,slightly off topic question to end the thread, does my 2016 (66) Cupra 290 have exhaust valves? Just since my res delete I can’t get my head around how in comfort mode it doesn’t crackle/ pop but in sport/ Cupra it does?

Cupra mode spits some unburnt fuel into the exhaust to cause the crackle and has a quicker throttle response than normal modes.

Apparently the other modes all have the same power that’s been tested but just take longer on full throttle to kick in and doesn’t sound as good.

Keep us updated on the mods, my cupra is standard with red delete and power flex dog bone insert, wheel hop is cured and very very little vibration when reversing out my drive. Other than that I noticed no diff. Have PS4s too.

Does your res delete vibrate cabin at certain RPM? Thanks for the info,

Not at all, mines is the zaustworx one which has a slightly thinner diameter and no mandrel bends unlike the vagsport one. From what I’ve read the vagsport one has a lot more bass and less pops due to less pressure in the exhaust.

It’s actually amazingly comfortable and quiet when you want it to be. I have a 280 so it’s a double res delete to make it like the 290/300s.

Mine is also Zaustworx, sounds perfect as you say I just get a bit of vibration on my centre console; doesn’t really bother me.

So looking at two springs on DPM’s site; eibach 25/20mm springs or H&R 35mm springs. Which one would you guys go for for the Cupra? I’m thinking 25mm isn’t enough but then Dont Want it too low; maybe 35mm is too much? What have you guys got? I just want to get rid of most the arch gap.

Eagerly watching this, I can’t say I’ve felt the need to change the handling this far, in the wet or dry the limit is ridiculously fast with the PS4s, however I’m always looking for more to do...

Ps I really love the blue you went for, one of the nicest colours IMO. :)

Thanks pal, yeah I was quite lucky as I haven’t seen any for sale the same as mine; alor blue, black edition, manual and bucket seats. I love blues. I’ll probably get some springs on, PS4S when they need doing and maybe the dogbone mounts and yeah that’ll be all probably. Getting my intake finished soon with my service; would recommend you to go for it. have the R600 intake from RacingLine with the turbo muffler delete, getting the coolant underhose, intake hose and hi flow turbo elbow from them on Tuesday. Sounds so much better you can really hear the turbo and all the lovely intake noises.

All those sound great but everything I’ve read points towards minimal gain, the r600 on its own is a small fortunate.

As much as I enjoy changing my car, I’m also tighter than two coats of paint.

Although if I see any of the reputable air boxes second hand I’ll jump at them if the price is right. Considering a JB4 next (second hand ) or a remap, the reviews they get seem to make it a no brainer.

k

Are you sure? The farting is ign retard for reducing load on upshifts, and the popping also happens in normal engine mode/sport DSG.
I stand to be corrected, but injecting raw fuel into the exhaust will seriously f**k up your emission tests.
Bikes pop on overrun due to air injection into the exhaust, I suspect this might be the same cause on the Cupra. Or any vehicle with a free flowing exhaust.

I am absolutely 100% not sure

On a manual it only happens in cupra mode, DSG is different so sport + DSG give the pops on the overrun.

I haven’t looked into what actually causes the crackles, I assumed it was the tiniest amount of unburnt fuel, perhaps something like an anti lag system to improve throttle response that the normal/comfort mode doesn’t need.

Could be looking into it too much too, I run it in cupra engine mode all the time and still get decent mpg so if it is some fuel being dropped in, it’s very minimal.

My view is the whole cold air intakes are in of them selves only providing small gains (or more noise if that is what you are after) but are required when you are going for the bigger BHP / Torque figures to support the breathing of the engine.

If you look at most of the main stream tuners for stage one you need nothing extra added to the engine.

However when you start looking at stage 2 and beyond then you need this stuff to feed the raw materials into the engine.

I have to admit I done it mostly for noise/ aesthetics however as you say it can’t be a bad thing to let the engine breathe more especially stage 1/2

My manual pops in sport mode too, and you CAN tease a few tiny ones out in comfort occasionally if you really try

Mine absolutely won’t, i know the 290/300 had more pops as standard so I imagine that’s why, I couldn’t get any crackles even in cupra mode before my res delete.

Demon tweaks site was terrible when I looked.

Speak to the site sponsor Progressive Parts, they can order the right ones. All the Cupras apart from the 4Drive ST have both the Pro Line and Sportline kits available for them.
What mm have you gone down? What’s the arch gap like?

Eibach say 15mm all round for the Sportlines on the 4 drive. Yet Sportlines on the normal FWD Cupras lower 25mm. When I questioned it, Eibach UK said it was ‘because the 4drive is already lower than the standard cupra’. Which based on my experience is BS.

EibachEibach products are bang in, not so sure about try staff knowledge on their emails.

This is mine. I reckon it’s more like 25mm lower front, 20mm rear. But the rear springs are different to the Sportlines on the FWD estate having checked part numbers....

Looks bang on that mate I might get VWR springs just cos they’re a bit cheaper. Looks samee height as my hatchback standard so yeah think that was a load of tosh. What front splitter is that pal?
