If we accept that I'm venturing into an area here that is on the borders of my "area of competence" Then I'll offer up that I believe the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System on our Ibizas (I have a 2016 95hp ST) does not directly monitor tyre pressure. That sounds crazy doesn't it? but I've bought a full size steel spare steel wheel - so same rim size and tyre as the alloys - and it has no pressure monitoring yet the car works fine with it fitted and the pressure monitor does not kick in with it fitted.
It's my understanding that the TPMS system uses aspects of the ABS to detect variation in wheel rpm. When the tyre pressure falls in a tyre it's rolling diameter decreases so it's rpm will increase compared to a fully inflated tyre/wheel. If it detects one wheel revolving consistently at a different rpm to the other 3 then it triggers the TPMS light. One reason why it's prudent to check your tyre pressures regularly.
