Hi everyone i have owned my seat leaon FR 2.0 tdi for 5 years now and thinking maybe time for a change, i have looked at a few different options but cant seem to beat the leon.

I don't need deisel as dont do enough miles and a new shape leon is out of my price range plus i prefer this model, i am thinking the 1.4 tsi fr model or the 1.5 tsi ,are them engines decent worry free aslong as regular servicing etc ? I do mine yearly regardless.

Also i see the screen has been upgraded and electric handbrake and a few other bits anything else worth noting ? Just seems to be best car for the money looking at around 18-19 plate

Any opinions or help welcome
Thanks dean

I’ve heard some horror stories about the 1.5 engine - if you Google it, you’ll find plenty of things about it. My wife has the 1.4 in her Ibiza FR - it’s a great engine and economical as it has active cylinder technology so shuts down two cylinders when cruising. It’s quite torquey too - it has about 150 BHP - we’ve used it to go on holiday and it coped more than adequately with the two of us plus all our luggage. Mpg wise, you can get into the 50s and as I said, it’s still got some go even after having driven my 400 horse BMW. Personally, I’d go for the 1.4 as VW tried solving the issues on the 1.5 but people were still having issues.

Thanks for that mate so the 1.4 tsi is the way to go then. Been lookimg at all sorted of cars and nothing else seems as good of value for 12-13k for a 2018-2019 model car and i love my current leon just fancy a newer one and slight upgrade

you’ll only find 1.4’s up to 18 plates maybe a couple on 68. i think the 1.4 is way better though more reliable and feels a little more energetic. get the 150bhp with active cylinder tech and enjoy the 50mpg as already said. mpg wise diesels are yesterdays news.

We've had our 18 plate 1.4TSi since new and I'm still impressed; OK you're never going to rip the tarmac up in it, but it's quick enough for everyday traffic, quiet and surprisingly economical. It's a good engine.

I bought a 2018 Leon 1.4TSi (150) FR Technology DSG in May 2019, so been driving it for over 2 years. Overall average mpg has been 45mpg with up to 53 on longer journeys (which due to Covid have been fewer than usual).
I like the electric handbrake & AutoHold.
The car is the right size for me and the performance is adequate. I did consider the 1.8 but happy with the 1.4.
My previous car, for 6 years, was an Octavia vRS 170 diesel. Apart from the occasional useful bigger boot & better front seats of the Octavia I prefer the Leon, which is also more economical.
