Hi,
I'm currently considering a Formentor. My options are either the 1.5 150ps, or the 2.0 190ps. There's quite a price difference on PCH deals - about £80 per month. Because of that I was initially going to go with the 1.5, but I'm worried I'll be disappointed with it, especially on the motorway. That said, it there a huge amount of "real world" different between the two? Obviously I can see the on paper figures, but I'm not interested in 0-60 etc, I'm bothered about how it drives in every day situations. If there's a huge difference it's worth the 80 quid but if the extra 40bhp doesn't make all that much difference I'd go with the 1.5.
I'm coming from a Merc c300d so it's going to be a step down power wise either way, but I'm just not doing the mileage to justify the Merc anymore.

Isn't the 190 four wheel drive too?

That goes s long way to justify the extra cost as well as the extra bhp

Yeah it is. I previously had an A4 218ps quattro and loved it, but it's not very often that I made use of it. The Merc is awful being rear wheel drive in that it's constantly trying to wheel spin at the slightest chance! Say you're coming out of a junction and give it a tiny bit more to make it into a gap in the traffic, you can guarantee it'll start slipping! Any amount of snow is an absolute no go, but luckily it rarely snows here. On this car I'd really notice if it was AWD, but I guess my thinking was that with just the 150ps, AWD wouldn't really be necessary or that much more noticeable. My days of fast off the line starts and throwing the car round bends are well behind me, the extra power is purely for motorway pull, overtaking, getting up hills etc. It's pretty hilly round here so if I'm constantly having to blast it to get anywhere it's gonna become pretty tedious. :/

I did used to have a 150bhp Audi A3 saloon which was absolutely fine, but that was a TDi and a smaller car, so just worried whether it might be a bit lacking "grunt" with a TFSi and bigger car?

I drove my dads 1.5 150ps DSG Ateca for about a week before driving my V2 2.0 190ps Formentor.

Personally I find the 190 a much nicer drivetrain and for the same use pattern is returning the same mpg.
The 190 feels much more refined than the 150.
Arrghh, don't say that, I was hoping to hear it's not too a noticeable difference and save me 80 quid a month ?

I had a 130 tsi 1.5 leon and it was a dead duck of a car

The 150 will be better but the bulk and weight of the formentor may negate the extra 20 bhp

The 190 it is then. As much as I'd like to go all out and get one of the higher power engines, I'd prefer it in V2 spec for the leather seats etc, which means anything with a higher engine is getting a bit expensive as I'm looking to be paying less than currently if possible rather than more. Hopefully the 190 with AWD will be a happy middle ground.

I'm going to wait a bit though, let some of the infotainment system gremlins I keep hearing about get ironed out. :/

Jut to throw this in the mix. I have a V2 1.5tsi and it performs really well. I came from a VZ Edition 310ps and yes I missed the power but now mine has slackened up its better than I thought it would be. The 190 will feel peppier but it is also heavier than the 150ps. I'm averaging 39mpg and I think the 190ps is similar.
If you want 4wd and a little more power then go 190ps but the 150ps does do a good every day job and it's cheaper to buy. It's the old conundrum of what you want vs what you need, I always go for what I want, just need to save alot formy next car ;)
