I was just reading about the outer CV joints, I am waiting for the garage to open to call and confirm if they have reviewed this (I would expect so but you never know). In addition, the car has been “aligned” 3 times in a row and still, when I keep my steering wheel straight, the car drift off rather significantly to the left. The wheel where the noise originated from is the left front wheel. The car is front wheel drive.I had an xr2 back in the day and on that car that sort of noise was driveshafts or more specifically the outer CV joints.
Have a look at some videos about CV joints and see if what you are hearing is similar.I had an xr2 back in the day and on that car that sort of noise was driveshafts or more specifically the outer CV joints.
Sometimes the alignment is set to be correct at the wheels but is a little off at the steering wheel. So this is a poor execution of the alignment guys?Sometimes the alignment is set to be correct at the wheels but is a little off at the steering wheel. That's lazy
I will review some videos on this nowPerhaps the drag of the worn shaft is causing some drift...
What you describe sounds like driveshafts to me, but I am no mechanic
The actual alignment may be sport on, IE the wheels have all the correct angles, but the steering isn't centred. So this is a poor execution of the alignment guys?
Btw thank you for all your comments, I am currently investigating the outer CV joint videos, though the noise appears to be a little different. But again, I agree, these are things which appear to be rather common and I don’t understand why they would not have found this…
Here you go, perhaps you can tell me? This is what they gave me, I do find some of the ranges rather big but ok…The actual alignment may be sport on, IE the wheels have all the correct angles, but the steering isn't centred.
This person shows the steering wheel issue perfectly https://youtube.com/shorts/q2WUlBEBcBA?feature=shareHere you go, perhaps you can tell me? This is what they gave me, I do find some of the ranges rather big but ok…

I see now, so essentially the guys been working on the car changing bearings and what not and then didn’t even set the axes correct so the steering is straight… I understand this to be the cause of the steering problems? The actual alignment may be sport on, IE the wheels have all the correct angles, but the steering isn't centred.

We like the steering wheel to be straight when driving straight but the car doesn't care, as long as the wheels are aligned correctly, which they appear to be.I see now, so essentially the guys been working on the car changing bearings and what not and then didn’t even set the axes correct so the steering is straight… I understand this to be the cause of the steering problems?
All the numbers are within specification. In an ideal world you would try to get everything symmetrical, but I don't see your alignment being an issue. Here you go, perhaps you can tell me? This is what they gave me, I do find some of the ranges rather big but ok…
