Looking for some help if anyone has any experience, which from reading some forums it seems like some do.
The car is a 2017 Leon FR Mk3.5
My head unit has not been working (no radio, phone, car settings etc) for approx 2 months and I had my local dealer check it out while in for a service. They told me that it is the 5F module needs to be replaced, and that it will cost approx €1200+ EUR (€1560 exactly when paired with the cruise control module that also went)
This is not an amount of money I am comfortable with parting with without doing some digging.
I understand these are VW coded units and as such can’t be installed second hand or anything, but has anyone found a way to service this unit or found any ‘false positive’ items that they fixed instead of replacing the module?
Im at a loss here as I had been planning to sell the car and instead I’m looking at outlaying a massive amount of money that i’ll never benefit from.

They were supposed to be that way, but only until some tech wizards cracked the code and found ways to patch them, and that happened years ago for the device generation in question here. I'm sure you can find some garages to offer you a second hand unit which has all the features unlocked and ready to be plugged & coded into your car.

If you need a Firmware Update for the Patch IT Take about 30min time

Change Unit in the Car, 5 min Time

Dont forget the Coding after Patch

The logo appears on the screen, but it never gets past that and retries every 20 secs or so
So it's stuck in a boot loop.

Pointless trying to update it, they tend to end up completely bricked. Unless you pull the fuse for the infotainment for half an hour then see if it boots, then you could try an update?

Failing that, a replacement will be the only option. The infotainment control modules can be swapped from one car to another but you need to make sure it's the correct part number and not from a registered stolen vehicle.

You can also buy modified units that will work in any vehicle, regardless of age and spec, providing all the hardware is present.
