• Hey Guest👍👎 We're looking for reviews of your local CUPRA or SEAT Dealership - it's quick and easy to do: Leave a review now
Well.... Firstly I have to ask if you drove the 272ps PHEV or the lesser powered one they are chalk and cheese.

I have this model and I started to listen to the review you posted and only watched the first 6 mins of it because the guy clearly doesn't do his homework.

He may have got the rest of the review right (I didn't listen, pointless when he can't get the basics right) but as an example..... he says no other way to get into the boot other than either wiggle your foot under the car or use the key fob.

Firstly, CUPRA say kick your foot not wiggle it, if you wiggle it, it doesn't work if you kick under the car it does, every time.

He ommited to mention there is also the option of pressing the release buttton on the boot itself, not just on the fob.

He then goes onto expailning the sliding rear seats, but doesnt mention the option to tilt the seats.

I couldn't watch any more sorry.

I'm totally happy with the car in this format 1.5 VR1 PHEV 272PS. my next one might be the VR2 just for few more gadgets and the leather seats.

I haven't come from driving under powered cars, so thats not why it impresses me, I also currently have a Mercedes SL400 AMG Sport, and my last comany car was a Mercedes EQC 400 both with loads of power, and I'm also former racing driver so have a little experience in "hooning around".

I just think some people have a downer on electric and PHEV cars and people in their position shouldn't push their narative, they should give un bias feedback.

I agree electic cars and PHEVs dont suit everyone it depends on their circumstances.

I would never have had an all electric company car if I was doing loads of miles, (it sat outside of the office all day) also I wouldn't have had one if I didnt have an other car to use when I needed it.

I think the PHEV is the best of both worlds, all of our local milage is done via electric and we still have the backup of the engine if going further.

We do have a home charger and I think this is imperitive if you either want to get the best out of either a PHEV or fully electric car.

I'm interested in your answer to my first question btw 😉

Cheers

Nev
Hi Nev, thanks for the feedback. Yes, it was the 272. The "guy" is me :D. Sorry you couldn't get through the review.

Yes, I'd not read the manual, and we only get the cars for a week which is juggled alongside the day job. I should have done my homework however on the boot. Someone pointed it out on Youtube and I addressed it in the description "Correction: There is a button to open the boot next to the rear camera if your foot doesn't work. Thanks to ‪@AndREDraut‬ for pointing this out."

Noted re the seats, I'd not played with them fully, good to know for next time!

We always strive to give good in depth reviews and as this is a hobby not the day job, we aren't professional motoring journalists and never claim to be..

I'm certainly not against PHEV's my wife has a Volvo PHEV and it's performance is great compared to my CUPRA Leon (pure petrol).
Really glad you are happy with the car and do appreciate the feedback!

Cheers,

Scott

Sorry mate,

Please dont take it the wrong way, I have a history with "professional" sales people not having a clue what ther are talking about when it comes to cars, so I'm always a bit touchy about it: I didnt realise the review was done by yourself and I made an assumption (always dangerous, I should know better) that this was a professional jouno. doing his bit.

I'll make a point of taking a look at the rest of the review this morning.

Many thanks BTW for all the effort with the web site, I know how time consuming it can be I was admin on a large motorbike sites many years ago and it can be draing, so again please accept my apologies for the bull in a china shop approach.

Best Regards

Nev

Minor update now had a couple of months and put over 2000 miles on it.

One major difference to any car previously driven is how sensitive collision detection is, its flipped on more than a few times when in full control of the situation, IE: having to weave through parked cars on either side of road on a side street, and cars turning left, but quite a way ahead.

The worst experience was when it whacked on the anchors as went partially over a mini roundabout, it must have detected was going to hit it, but its a roundabout gone over hundreds of times, as have many others. Real shock and jolt and lucky nothing behind me!

Does anyone else think the collision detection is sensitive? All previous cars have had this tech, GTI, R and a BMW 128Ti and extremely rare the detection alert was seen, and my driving has not changed.

Took me a little while to understand the EV usage in combination with the ICE but this is my approach.

Fill Up with Petrol
Charge to 80%
Use the Hybrid Preserve Battery
When Petrol approaches 80-100 mile range go to full hybrid
This approach tends to run down the battery at just about the same time the range goes sub 50 but extends my overall range to about 450 miles (says 44.7 MPG on as average from refueling)

By preserving the battery it ensures that get full performance, which tend to shift the selector into S when want to get away a little more sharply.

Performance is excellent for a car this size, as is the drive, its really assured wherever pointing it.

My only gripe on performance, is they could have added some more fakery, as though the EV/ICE combination gives you that full 272PS push you can hear the ICE gassing a little,

Aside from that, really happy with car, love pretty much everything about it, and when this goes back and we look to change out 2019 Golf R we will be looking to see what deals are on the VZ2 AWD ICE Terramar, which is probably the best power train for this car.

As another option, have got used to using the fob for the boot as walk up to the car, just depress and hold the middle button and it opens with a 'beep' similar to a lorry reversing.

Just posted an update to experience, but the PHEV performance is impressive for what it gives you as a balance of economy and performance, but if took the economy out of the requirement think the VZ2 265PS AWD would be the sweet spot for the Cupra Terramar.

I've had this happen to me once but figured as it didn't spring the large red collision warning symbol on the dash it must have been the front parking sensors which figured I was going to hit the obstacle so slammed the brakes on.

It happened so quick and unexpectedly that cannot remember if the red collision icon was activated, so it may have been the sensors, but there was nothing behind me (thankfully) and nothing in front of me aside from a slightly raised mini roundabout which is wider than the usual but no higher, and it was a proper emergency stop, but as was not going overly fast, 20 something it was more shock than anything else. Would not like it to happen at a faster speed though.

It is sensitive though, the alert came on today with a car turning left quite a way in front of me and so far ahead I just lifted foot off the accelerator opposed to braking. Not sure if there is a distance setting on collision warning, will check once finished a work item as close out my day,

EDIT: Appears there is a thread on this, so not just us https://www.seatcupra.net/forums/threads/collision-avoidance-assistance.479334/

And the Google AI overview says this from all its sources:

Yes, the Cupra Terramar features a highly sensitive collision-detection system, often described by users as "trigger-happy" or overzealous. The system includes front and rear sensors that can activate automatic emergency braking abruptly during daily driving, such as when reversing near foliage or parking.
Key details regarding the collision warning sensitivity include:
  • Overactive Sensors: Users have reported instances where the system slams on the brakes for non-existent obstacles, particularly in tight parking scenarios or when maneuvering around corners.
  • System Components: The car is equipped with Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning) and rear collision avoidance systems.
  • Sensitivity Settings: While some models allow for adjustments, others have reported limited settings, with some complaints stating it cannot be effectively turned down.
  • Safety Risk: The high sensitivity has been described as a safety concern by some drivers, as the sudden braking can occur on open roads, raising the risk of being rear-ended.

This has happened twice to me and its VERY scary when it does no warning just bang brakes on full.
Once it thought I was joining a roundabout too early, car on the inside lane passing in front of me, I was pulling onto the roundabout to run around the outside lane, (no where near the other car)

The second time I was puling out of my drive I have electric sliding gates and didnt wait until the gate was fully open before driving through, the opening was way wide enough for me to get through but the system said no.... again BANG on with the brakes, scared the **** out of me lol.

Turn off the options inside Front Assist - and it's fixed - downside you have to do it everytime you start the car. Red alarm is triggered but not the brakes.
