Hi All
Well the time has come.... the creaking panoramic roof finally pushed me over the edge with it's creaking/cracking, I've lost count of the times I cleaned the mechanism and the seals and re-greased them for it to last no more than a couple of months before the creaking returned so I got to the point of no return, I have sold the 300 ST, a sad day, a perfect car in every other way.
The moral of the story Never buy a car with a Pan roof and f**k knows why VAG couldn't design a panoramic roof without so many issues!!

Sorry to hear a creaking pano roof was the reason for you selling your car - I think I would have done the same as I can’t stand unwanted creaks and rattles in a car. I’ve not had a car with a sunroof for many years - the last one was a mk3 Vauxhall Astra back in the late 1990’s.

I got my first air con equipped car in 2000 and since then I’ve never felt the need to have a sun roof; I much prefer to be cocooned in my car with all windows closed and air con on (permanently), and as you’ve said a sunroof / pano roof is just one more thing that needs maintaining, not to mention the potential for unwanted creaks and rattles.

What are you thinking of replacing the 300 ST with?

I think it's a shame that these pan roofs are so bad, I know someone with an Audi RS6, hates the car for the same reason... creaking roof!
There were other creaks, again down to VAG using inferior quality materials ie the door seals, I've never in my life had a car with seals that creak quite like them, unbelievable!
The Cupra certainly made me an expert in tracking down rattles and creaks in cars!
I have done a trade in for a 2020 Focus 2.3 ST, and honestly, the build quality is better in some ways than the Cupra, not as rapid (mine had a stage1) but a fun car to drive.
Sad to have parted with the Cupra though.

Build quality is an interesting one. Up until last year, I’d been a loyal VW customer for 22 years and during that time there was a noticeable drop in build quality. I took a leap of faith last year and bought my first French car 😮. 12 months on and I’ve no regrets; IMHO build quality is better than VW’s recent efforts, the interior is a much nicer place to be and my current car isn’t afflicted with multiple software gremlins that seem to have been a feature of many VAG products during the past 4 years or so.

Enjoy your Focus ST 👍. My current car also has less power than all the VW‘s I owned but when most of my driving is on single carriageway A and B roads littered with speed cameras, and I’m stuck in a stream of slow(ish) moving traffic, there’s little - if any - opportunity to exploit the full performance potential of a more powerful car.

It's a shame, I bought the car on the back of the VAG platform being a reliable, well built car, clearly, like you say, VW have clearly let their quality slip with common issues not being addressed or updated..waterpump housing for one!
I know all cars have problems and inherent faults, and no doubt I'll run into some problems with my new car but at least the interior feels like it's been made out of higher quality materials.
The performance of the Cupra was off the chart I really loved it but like you say, too many speed cameras and unmarked police cars to have serious fun, and as a consequence I pretty much never came out of comfort mode!🤣

Too bad, but highly understandable. My pano roof only creaks very slightly when I go over bumps diagonally. Otherwise its fine. These sounds can irritate, I highly agree

Good luck with the ST and have fun with it!

Hi
Yes, it really did irritate me, the creak would just get worse and worse until I decreased and re-greased everything.
If there had been a permanent fix I'd have been happy to have paid for it!!
I will miss the Cupra though. 🫤
