Born making a clunk from front when starting ac charge - normal?

Hi folks, took delivery of my new Born last week - 59kW v2 in aurora blue.

very different to my previous Leon SC 184 tdi.

all good until last night as the charge failed with an error- it’s an Ohme epod.

I played around with it this morning, and when starting the charge the car makes a loud clunk from the front when the charge is started/stopped.

I don’t think this is normal?

my wife has a mini electric and on testing same cable no issue and usual relay style clicks.

wondered what other folks experienced before hitting the “it’s got a fault” button.

I’ve not tried dc charging at all yet, that’d be next step tomorrow.

thanks for any responses.

I hope it’s. Normal as a fault after 2 ac charges doesn’t fill me with confidence.

Neil.

A loud clunk that can be heard under certain circumstances is usually the HV contacts either opening or closing to allow current flow from/to the battery or to stop said current.

Yeah it's normal (at least my car also makes the same noise).

What I've found is that the car really needs to see some amount of charge within the first 3 minutes or it'll show an error. On Zappi, there's an option called "plug-in charge" which will give a 30 seconds charge when you first plug in. If yours has a similar option, make sure it's turned on.

Thanks folks, seems to be working fine now. It seemed to be the API with the car and the Ohme charger - I deregistered the car, so essentially it's a timed charge now at cheap rate, and it hasn't done it since. I suppose the clunk is a "characteristic".

I’ve been having failed scheduled charges via Ohme charger too, unpaired the car from it yesterday and scheduled a charge in the car itself - all worked as requested.
Guess there’s something in the comms between Cupra and Ohme that’s not 100% reliable yet.

I seem to remember seeing something similar with a new Renault 5 EV. Owner had an Ohme charger and was also having issues with scheduled charges failing.

So it’s probably not just an issue with the combination of a Cupra EV and an Ohme charger.

Try turning off dynamic charge when uplugged on the Ohme app. Then schedule via car or use price cap on Ohme app to set a charging window at off peak rate.
