On wheels dropping off of VW group, Channel Four News, Friday night from 30 mins in had Matt Frey (spelling) visiting an East German factory.... alt right and all that, VW car manufacturing closing down, rally's and interview with workers. The moped group  or something, think those were East German scooters (mopeds).

Strange when our car plants closed down it wasn't in the middle of political rallies... may be Mrs T substituted for the far right ;). Think we all knew British cars were rubbish why nobody was buying them.

This is it.

afraid not, that was not an option for the company car. I had one of these in this colour and the glass roof you could take off.

Kids loved it and i have to say I wish I had one of these on the track based on how good they were on the road.

Did that tail foil keep the back end on the road ;) . I dont think we have had a moan about Jag / Land Rover. After Tata bought them the newer models started to have an Indian design squiggle to them. Least I thought so. Designed by Brits to look a bit oriental. Their romance with electrict wasn't well received by their ICE buyers. Now the Chinese are knocking them out (Land Rover replicas) like no tomorrow.

Jag ICE saloons are another keeper.

All I can say is it handled very well, No Idea if it helped but it was a fun car to drive and I can say the handling saved my life when coming round a corner at speed and guy coming at me overtaking a lorry, I bounced up on the pavement (in a rural are so no people for miles) and bounced back onto the road with no fuss.

At the later stages of the partnership, Honda still did not want to sell, but was too frustrated by the British management at Longbridge that a full withdrawal was the only option. Rover thought "marrying" to the Germans were more attractive than continuing speaking in Japanese, yet they could hardly imagine the facts that all BMW wanted were 2 things: FWD technology specifically for the A-segment and the Mini brand.

Agree, and they also wanted the Landrover 4x4 knowledge for the X5.

European automakers signed their end by making deals to produce in China with transfer of technology, which means to produce there they would have to do partnerships with local brands and transfer the technology to them.

They swapped short term profits for long term prospects.

Tesla gave the final blow by building their first factory outside the US in China and building their whole EV and help build their supply chains so other brands could take advantage of it. Now Tesla is suffering too and stopped growing for years now...

Well China worked out how to make cars and particularly EVs. Their 100 year plans. Knowledge of global warming with World industrial development. India has still got to get on that development curve whilst America sticks it head in the sand. One day they may wake up. Tariffs arent the answer.

Cost base is lower in China why it's a manufacturing capital. Why Hong Kong did so well just switched to wider China.

Anyhow Vag groups new IDs are doing well in Europe on orders taken. Vag may well have got it's act together. Automated car production in Europe with Chinese OEM parts may produce cars getting close to Chinese costs. Who knows but competition from China is now unleashed unless you live in America where Chinese cars are banned from sale. Digging themselves into a bigger economic hole.

Although on a significantly smaller scale to VW's troubles and closure plans, all is not well for Jaguar Land Rover here in the UK.
