Where is my Engine "Lightning Bolt Tap" light.

Hi there Guys,

My mate has a mk3 cupra like mine but a 2001 and mine is 2000.

Basically when he starts the engine he has an extra light which is that "engine problem light like a tap" Ive never ever seen that when starting the engine up so im worried that the tiny LED has blown which is bad if i have a problem.

Is it maybe i have an older model and i dont have that light?
these are the lights that come up when i start engine up.

you mean the EML "engine management light"if i remember correctly it should come on when the ignition is on then go off straight away but if it stays on then theres a problem

Just been out and checked my car, it is a 2000 model Cupra and it the same as yours, no light.

is their 2 different sets of dials for different years :shrug:

??

reason i ask, i havnt got that big "P" at the bottom of my dash, and i know a few others that havnt too, but some have ???

same dials just different symbols light up

later models have the ! symbol for handbrake

the eml is on the right above the immobiliser symbol

later models have the epc light appear when there is a fault code i guess

i think mine is the older one . so basically the the epc light is the same as the engine light (engine management light)

no it doesnt the epc light is not the eml light there two totaly different lights

ok ok im confused.

So what does the EPC light stand for and actually do and am i suppose to have an eml light. as both me and peter 0976 dont have any. surely im never gonna know if somin is wrong then am i?

We have both got an EPC light, it's there in your picture.

According to my Seat book the EPC light is for Accelerator pedal Faults:

"If there is a fault in the accelerator pedal working, a warning light will switch on. Have the fault repaired at a SEAT Official Service Centre"

I'm sure if there is a problem one light must come on, anyway VAGCOM will know if you car has a fault and surely this gets checked every service

i know of issues with the clutch and brake pedals where the epc light has come on...all related to pedal switches though so it doesn't confirm much

it was a guess though, but cant see there not being a light for when a fault code arises

I had an EPC light a few times, turned out to be the clutch pedal switch by the actual pedal, little white thing. Took it off, cleaned it and put it back on and hey presto no EPC fault.

Another question tho, are they the lights you shown when the car is running?

if you have vag-com you can thru instrument check and it exercises the dash to see whats working and whats not.

I got both lights (EPC & EML). I've had countless problems with my clutch pedal switch but never had a light come on for it :shrug:
