I removed the EGR valve on my car about a month ago and gave it a clean. There was some thick carbon/soot/oil crud but not too bad, picture below.
I never replaced the o-rings on the EGR valve when I removed it but the past week I've noticed a leak from the joint, picture below. I'm planning on removing the EGR valve again and replacing the o-rings but have a question: should I apply any sealant when replacing the o-rings? The o-rings sit in a groove of the EGR valve and I was wondering if there needs to be some sealant in this groove to ensure a good seal?
When I removed the o-rings from the EGR valve I never noticed any sealant residue so I'm wondering if the o-ring alone is sufficient to ensure a good seal.
