If its a manual 5 speed part number G052512A2
If its a manual 6 speed part number G052171A2

The dealer is correct, no change interval on manual boxes. I suspect that if is whinning that much then the oil change wont make any difference.

Thanks, maybe it could be low in oil? In that case it would solve it.

Although it's hard to believe a oil would mantain it's properties for such a long time.

I think that changing gearbox oil at a certain point in a car's life does tend to give you a good feeling that you are doing your best to make it last a lot longer, but, as Frenchy says, it should not need changing.

If you remove the gearbox filler/level plug when the car is on level ground, at best a slight trickle of oil should eventually creep out, if it does not, use a bent piece of wire etc to check how far below the correct level it currently is - and top up until to flows back out the filler/level plug hole.

I would not advise sticking a finger in there are it might just get jammed between the inside of that hole and the gears, I seem to remember achieving that with a FWD Ford once, so I use a bent piece of wire or allen key now! (much older and maybe almost wiser)

I decided I will change the oil saturday with vw original that costs 12€ per litre.

Its cheap, my doubt is will two litters be enough?

Because the spec says 2L so I dont know if it woukd be better to buy 3l to have some margin.

It's because I like to do preventive stuff, last year I replaced the fuel filter too...

Let us know how you get on.

Andy
Changed the oil, the old oil didnt appear too bad.
Didnt notice any changes in the gearbox but this was only preventive.

2l was enough (5 speeds gearbox)

having stuff like this is highly recomended I think its inpossible without it because of the location of the filling plug

Sorry, I meant to get back and suggest 2 litres would be enough as some oil will remain in the gearbox. That tool looks very interesting and a lot better than any tools like that that I have bought, I am very jealous of you being fortunate to be able to buy it!!!

I didnt buy it, I go to a self service garage to do all the mantainance in the car, also changed the engine oil and filter because it was time.

Im just giving an advice, because without it I dont know how I would to it.

feedback:

the gearbox is light by default but after like 100kms I notice it's lighter than before. Where I notice more difference is in the second gear that was the worse in my car.

the noise of the first post still exists but seems diminushed, I don't notice during driving, just doing that test.

Hey Dm

So you did a gear box oil drain and then top it back up with that new oil you bought. How did you know when to stop filling up the transmission?

Also that syringe tool, any links to where you can get it from?

I knew because you can't get more. once is full the oil starts to get out.

That diagram works well enough, the "fill" hole is also the "level" hole, so as said, when you start to over fill, the extra oil runs back out!

Yes, I want one of these large things as well, let's start hitting ebay?
