Just called a local VAG specialist garage in Southampton and was quoted £129 for an oil service.

New to the VAG/LCR world - does that seem a fair price?

Thanks

oil changes are so easy i'm suprised people don't do it themselves it takes no more than 20 mins with basic tools , that price is around what dealers charge

Got my car booked in with a local VW and Audi specialist this saturday. £25.00 to carry out the change - though I am supplying the filter/sump plug and oil.

Your paying for the checks that they say they do and the stamp in the book at the end of the day.

Sounds expensive to me, considering the oil is probably about £15 to them for a full change at trade prices (for the top oils), filters are cheap and I don't know how they could justify more than an hour's labour.

I would knock £50 off that price, to be able to call it even near to reasonable in my eyes.

Thinking of going to JKM now as they seem highly rated. Costs even more but its more comprehensive and they do some sort of inspection which is what I'm after as I've only just bought the car.

Will go for cheaper services elsewhere after that..

What oil are you putting in?!

£25 for a specialist stamp is probably not a bad investment to be honest, if you want to keep the service book looking pretty. (Don't mean that in a funny way).

In answer to the original post though, I'm not surprised it has come out at that price. List dealer price on Quantum is quite steep, and the filter and plug are expensive in comparison to third-party replacements.

When you factor in 0.5-1 hours labour at dealer prices too...

depends what you want and ultimately what the potetnial next owner could want. Either way I think you need a stamp of some sort for a service at least every 12 months. If you want to periodically change oil in between that, then no biggy.

If you want an oil service by a back street independent - £60-£70

If you want an oil service by a dealer or company with dealer facilities or a dealer, then yeah, £120 ish, VW charge £139 but that adds an air filter too.
