I rang up seat today because i realised that my car was due its service, my ibiza is 2001 therefore they said it was due a major service and the cambelt to be changed aswell as a brake fluid change. The car has only covered 44k and i thought it was a bit early to be thinking about changing the cambelt yet.

Anyway i asked the bloke that i spokse to at seat to total up the whole service so i would know what im looking at, he then asked if i was sitting down which i thought wasnt a good sign of that was to come! he then quoted me a whopping £780! What a bloody rip off! any1 would think i was servicing Ferrari not a ibiza cupra for that amount!

What i need is for you guys to help me out and tell me if i need to look at doing the cambelt after just 44k??

Cheer for any help!

i think thats wat ur gon be payin for main dealer mate
my mate works at audi an he told me about 550 wi 200 quid off.

did mine at 52k as water pump had gone, so i'd say 40k is about ok for doing it.

cos me £300 quid, but that was me and my bro doing it plus a head gasket change, and full head rebuild :)

so glad my bro is a mechanic.

parts are a killer though for cam belt change

nah id change the water pump and timing belt about 45-50 a mate of mine has a leon cupra and at 45,000 his water pump impellers snapped off and therfor over heated the engine he had big probs.... not worth risking it, im due a major service on mine so ill look out for prices too lol :)

thats exactly what mine did, lucky for me, wasnt too bad

I had the same quote from my local dealer, my waterpump went at 40k so i had the cambelt and tensioners changed plus a 40k service. I couldn't believe my ears when they said £780. I ended up taking it to a local garage who charged me £200.

I sourced the parts myself from GSF, all they charged me for is the labour and coolant.

still cheap as fook, i got parts for dealer on trade, and they came to almost 200quid. and me and me bro did the fitting of cam belt

my 2001 cupras waterpump died a few months back at 58k.. luckily was booked in for the work the day after!!! Plastic water pump impellor had exploded it seems and also caused some overheating!! Luckily nothing majoy though!

Id be looking to get it changed but woudnt want to pay more than 350-400 for that and the service and brake fluid change!

My local garage charged me 320 for changing cambelt and waterpump.. and they sourced the parts (genuine though!)

Well my cars is booked in to have the cambelt, tensioners, waterpump and antifreeze to be done monday. I sourced the parts from GSF for £130 and been quoted £132 labour from my local garage. So all in all its going to cost me £260 inc vat which i thinks a reasonable price to pay.
