I'm thinking of getting an SE model 5-door but unsure whether the 1.2 or 1.4 is the best to get. I'm not looking for performance. I want smooth and comfortable. I know these are unusual attributes to seek on this excellent forum, but advice will be gratefully received.

I have the older 1.4 140bhp engine and I love it. The fuel economy is great and the car still has a reasonable amount of power.

I have a 12 mated to a dsg. Very pleased with economy, moderated power when needed and smooth drive

I have a 1.2Tsi with DSG and am very happy with it. I've had it for a year now and in that time I don't think I've ever felt it to be underpowered. It pulls strongly from low revs and is a very relaxed cruiser. Even with a bootful of stuff and a full back seat it still keeps up with traffic. I also own a 2.0 Megane CC and an Alfa Romeo Spider, and even after playing with those all weekend I jump back into the Leon on a Monday morning quite happily. I'd buy the 1.2 again with no doubts.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I drove a 4 month old registered 1.2 tsi SE 110 with the technology pack today and promptly bought it. I did have some prior knowledge of the 1.2tsi 105 and my son has an Ibiza FR. The Leon drives as well as the Ibiza, and, unlike the Ibiza, seems to have some suspension!

Before I bought my Cupra 280 around 2 months ago, I had a VW Polo 1.2 TSI (105). It's the same engine as the 110 unit, only older. I had mine remapped to 135bhp and 177 lb/ft and it went like stink for a 1.2. I could easily keep up with 2.0 TDIs thanks to the gearing. It picked up very well in second.

You've made a good choice. The 1.2 TSI is a gem!
