Hi there,

Yesterday I ordered a 57i K&N cone filter kit to fit into my 2002 1.2, seemed like a fairly simple job reading the instructions, however...

When you take the engine cover off there is a large air hole exposed from the exhaust manifold ( the bit at the front top of the engine with the o2 sensor coming out). Obviously I know you need to leave the engine cover off to fit the filter, but noone on here seems to have mentioned what to do to with this hole!?

Any answers you can give will help

Should also mention that this airhole pipe goes directly into the airbox when its attached, although it has a small slit out of the side so it doesn't seem to be an airtight seal?

Is that just the hot air inlet side of the air cleaner, ie the air gets drawn in over the exhaust when the temperature is cold.

looks like it, was just curious why Seat had bothered to mate it with the airbox, was just assuming the air needed to be filtered.

May just put a bit of thin mesh over it to keep dirt out

I hope that you will find that, on most cars (with indirect petrol injection), there are two routes for air to enter the original air cleaner assembly, in warm conditions the air will come straight in from the scoop at the front of the car, in cold conditions, a sensor will rotate and the air will get drawn in over the exhaust manifold - ie a bit of pre-heating to reduce the possibility of the injector petrol spray getting condensed in the inlet air of the engine. If you get condensation, extra fuel will need to get pumped in leading to wasted fuel and dirty exhaust.

So does this mean the air needs to be filtered? I'm confused because other people who have fitted the induction kit haven't seemed to fit anything to it
