I just bought this 1995 1.4 ibiza for a song and the gearbox is useless. It moves into gear, or feels like it does, but there is no drive. Anyone got any ideas as to what it is and if its fixable, or should I just try and get another box (difficult in Oz).

thats your clutch mate. I burnt out a clutch in a Rental 03 Fiat Punto within 10 minutes of driving it... I don't think it's used to heavy right footing..

You could get a new cluth? I think the clutch is the same in the VW Polo 1.4 (don't take my word for it though) - if it is the same, surely there is a VW/German car parts specialist in Oz that could source you the part?

Big Hole in the back of the box above the shift linkage. I reckon the last owner has run it with no oil and blown the bearing apart.

I`ve got a Golf 16v engine and gearbox here. Do you reckon I can just chuck that in it guys? Its K Jet.

so you own a VR6 Ibiza... and a soon to be 16v ibiza...... damn you

Sorry Mate. I am from the UK and could never afford the insurance there. In Australia, the land of 4, 5 and 6L v8s a 2.8L 6 cylinder hardly raises an eyebrow.

As for a 2L, thats just a small car. No-one here understands about VWs or Seats, and parts are a nightmare, but I just grin and hurtle round with the enlightened few :D

i'll give you my GTi... if you swap for the VR6.... sound liek a fair swap :p

Just to drag this post back on track. I just got quoted $1950 for a replacement gearbox. The car cost me $300. Thats supply only!! Its definately gonna become the ******* child and have the Golf lump bolted in then. :D

give me some parts man, im poor, and just did what sounds to be fairly simmilar damage to what you did, in gear and no drive, and no, its not the clutch, because on the road where i left my transmission fluid, i also found a spider gear, which ive been informed is from my gear box..........hahahahahah, hhhhm, maybe i shouldn be laughing, its gunna be a while till thats fixed........

You cant have my VR6, but I do have several 16v engines if you want one!

FULL engines... like gearbox, loom and everything to make it bolt up?? and are they all in running order.... how much?

Yup full conversions. Injection system, ecu, manifolds, engine ancillaries and everything you need to meake it go $2000 maybe a bit less. If its a 1.4 car you also need another gearbox, which I have for $500 to $1000 depending on which kind. You can sell your old 1.4 box though, wreckers want $2000 for em! email me on [email protected] if you are interested. Be quick.
