2013 1.4 16v petrol engine with 7.5k kilometers.

Today i heard a light ticking noise from the engine (with windows open, otherwise i can't hear it), which does vary with engine speed. Noise is only audible when accelerating hard with full throttle, and disappears with constant speed on level road or at slowing down. No other problems with the engine, that ticking is just annoying and it sounds like an old alfa :D

It sounds something like this

I've got that only when its only cold, was going to book it into seat but listen to the engine with a sound fork, wasnt the engine but a ancillary component,so didn't bother as it dosent occur unless its cold!
don't think its anything to worry about, just annoying!

I have this in my car, its very annoying! I can hear mine without the windows down. God knows what it is.

It's standard I had vw and seat look then I drove a 13 plate ibiza with 10 miles on it and it was even louder, but the polo doesn't make the noise :s, apparently the silencer makes it disappear a bit, it happens from 2000 RPMs up wards mine loudest at 2500 RPM, but completely normal so no worries

Yeah, that sounds like mine too. From 2000 rpm, but when accelerating gently the ticking is not there. It is just so annoying. It sounds like sh*t. I am going to mention it to the dealer, when my service comes up.

Thanks guys

Yeah it is annoying, the dealership I went to in Coventry said they couldn't hear anything, I took the guy under a bridge and he just laughed and said that's the noise it makes it's a bit of a tapping engine

Oil level is okay. To me, it sounds like injectors are making the noise, because it only happens when acceleraring fast. Doesn't matter if engine is hot or cold, it happens every time i put my foot down :)

Could injectors make such a light ticking-clicking sound?

I 1st thought it was the tappets, getting to to a certain speed then beenig noise, the injectors wouldn't make the noise I wouldn't had thought

But wouldn't tappets be heard all the time, not only on acceleration?

On idle and constant speed there is no noise whatsoever

My 1.4 16v has noisy tappets when it's cold or needs an oil change.

The noise on mine goes away when the engine warms up and the oil gets circulated throughout the whole engine.

Thanks for the replys.

I will listen to this ticking noise a little bit more carefuly now. If it gets any louder i will take it to the dealer, otherwise i will wait until 1st service interval that will be in a couple of months. I will try to make a video and post it so you can hear it too.

Warranty should cover it if it is anything wrong with it.

The 1.4 engine has had issues with piston slap, take it to a dealership and let them hear it when it's cold. I've heard of engines being replaced under warranty as it's a common issue apparently.

Ever think that the "ticking" when working the engine hard might just be pinking, ie pre-ignition, is so, try fuelling V-Power to see if it disappears. By the way, when "ticking" if you suddenly lift off does it disappear and if you put your foot down again does it come back immediately?

Yeah I found V-power didn't help mine but it does stop when you lift off

I tried diferent type of fuel but it is the same. Yes, it stops when i lift off and comes back immediatly after i put my foot down
