Hi guys

I’m looking at cars with the 1.8 TSI (CJSA) engine as my second car. I’d prefer petrol for ULEZ and a bit more fun. Found a few in budget but want to know what to look out for and how reliable they are. My current car is a 1.4 TSI Skoda — runs fine but idles rough (low compression on one cylinder). My first was a Mk1 Cupra which I loved but sold due to electrical issues. This time I want a solid, reliable daily that’s not too pricey to run. If the 1.8 isn’t great, I’d go for the diesel Leon instead, though I’d happily stick with a 1.4 TSI if it’s the safer bet. What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

My CJSA is rock rolid, but like with every engine, proper service is key! My oil service interval is every 12.000km, with Motul Power 5w40.
I've only recently replaced the PCV because of a little oil consumption, but other then that no issues (its coming up to almost 250.000km now).
Only thing I would advice: get the manual gearbox, or set some money aside to repair the DQ200 when (not if, but WHEN) it breaks down (either mecht unit or clutches). Mine just broke down 3 months ago and instead over replacing the mech unit (on which the oil accumolator broke) for €800, and knowing I will probably need to replace the clutched in 20.000km (another €800) I've swapped to a DQ250, also knowing this gearbox will handle the power of the IS38 swap I want to do the next couple of months

Nice one and sounds good. I found a few examples with good service history etc. if the oil has been changed etc often and recently would you think it’ll be ok? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202508255734806?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios-app
