Shame, it such a nice car too... I'm not looking to sell it. And I'm not worried about it going pop as it is at the moment (standard). I am worried it'll go pop if I start putting 300bhp through it.

Clearly you're not going to be any more help beyond trolling over 1.8Ts, so I'll leave you to your evening.

Trolling eh....... Im looking to buy one......... In answer to your original question, your car will be fine withh 300bhp+ going through it. Its hardly massive power compared to other 1.8T's with twice the mileage!

Going bit more back to subject your looking well into the £0000's skys the limit (or rather wallet) your looking at £700 rods and pistons although your pistons are good for 400 hp IRC. May stand corrected. Need shells big and small probably around £500 then if your doing that to enjoy your car you might as well put a baffled sump on £250 might as well put the AGU head on as well another couple hundred there plus a worthy garage to put it all together, not to sure on rates these days but I should imagine your talking £1000 or near it.

Thanks for the answer. I'm looking at keeping my engine as AMK standard, albeit with IE or TSR rods at £400 (+ shipping if from IE). The pistons, assuming they are ok and I don't see why not, would be kept seeing how they are good for higher than I am after as you state. Bearings would be a good shout for replacement too, again like you say.

I've roughly priced up bits I'd like, including cosmetic stuff (Brembo refurb, wheel refurb, lowering springs etc.) and the cost is a little over £2200, leaving £1800 for a rebuild and any incurred costs through replacement parts out of a £4000 budget. The rods are included in the £2200 figure.

A quick question - how are Airtec? Forge are expensive and seem to be bumping up price on their name, while universal FMICs seem a bit halfords, not to mention the cutting and shutting required by most.

I dont really know alot about sorted apart from the masses that get put on the fords. But seem really good for them.

I suppose its one of those things that you like you have done is set a budget and try and stick as close to it and hopefully the end result treats you well.

I two keep going over a build with bt it soon adds up to many thousands. Now I have started to think about getting rid. And get something else. But I enjoy it so much such a hard decision.

I considered BT but it's jut too expensive when my budget is already quite big. If I can refresh my car and make it 5 years younger, then I will keep it over buying a Focus ST, which I'd map etc. anyway.

Not sure what the running costs of a LCR modded to that extent would be but the focus STs are soooo juicy, everyone I know that has had one has gotten rid due to this.

I can't imagine it'd be far worse than they are now. I usually get anywhere between 30-33mpg, but then I do a lot of arterial driving.

My brother has a 300bhp Focus ST (kind of my inspiration!) and he gets 30mpg on a run, but otherwise anything from 23/24mpg upwards. They are notoriously thirsty though.

Im currently having mine rebuilt, everything but the crank which will just be laddered, incl all the parts its coming to somewhere near £4000. Thats uprating the rods, head gasket, fitting arp studs, new oil pump, cambelt kit and cam chain and tensioner etc. Most of the parts that can be uprated have been. Could be more if my block bores are **** :p I want to future proof the car should I ever decide to throw 400+ bhp at it.

Once the full quote is here ill type it up here for you, I want bills opinion on it any way :p

Fair play and I appreciate the dedication to the seat... Personally I think putting the 4k towards a standard 400bhp would be a better option.... The engine is only one part of the car ... I suppose if it wasn't for people like pushing the boundary with tuning the car scene would be a more boring place...

I already have that. I am literally just doing it because the turbo recently blew it seals so I decided it was time to throw some money at it. I've decided not to go over 7k altogether so we will see how it goes. I wish I had gone down the bt route instead of going for the hybrid turbo now, my budget was originally 3000 though and my target was 350bhp. That soon went out the window though!

Your having a £4k build just for a hybrid?

No it will have a larger one on it at some stage, I already have the hybrid though so that will go on there first. I can weigh up my options once the engine has bedded in. I just don't know what turbo I want and can't decide. I want to do something that hasn't been done before though

That makes more sense, seems a bit over kill just for a hybrid. Def suggest looking at the GTX range for a bigger turbo. GTX30 for over 500bhp and minimal lag.

As promised here is the list of parts to rebuild the engine, this is excluding the price for exhaust/inlet valves etc as I am awaiting a price from Bill at Badger5 for some Supertech goodies. My engine is being bored out to 83mm therefore I will require an oversized headgasket, everybody else could get away with purchasing an elring one! I have put NA in the cost price for the parts that are no OE. The rest of the prices are from Audi. The total cost including all quantities comes to £2,376.12 - labour cost, I don't really know as I'm having loads of other work done as well, perhaps Bill can advise you of this?

You will also note it does not include rods, rod bearings or pistons, I purchased the rods and rod bearings from Bill for £550+ and the Pistons are coming from IE and they were £600 or something like that.

I am not paying the prices below, quite a lot of them are considerably less than that. I thought I would add up the actual price of them all to give you an idea if you were to go to Seat/Audi/VW
