1.9 Xl is the engine noisy?

Have been told that this engine is noisy in the Xl.
Has anyone got any experience of this?

we have a 1.9 reference sport and yes it is a bit noisy and unrefined at slow speeds compared to some others like french but once on the move its fine and we're very happy with it ...especially considering the 2.0 one is about 4k more than we paid for ours
