I can't believe people are arguing that it should be two presses!

Yeah but what if you forget whether you have locked it or not? I often give it another press, but in future I will have to unlock and then press it ONCE. :D

I had a golf before so presumed it was the same. How wrong I was!

If you forgot, then press it once to unlock and once to lock. Still only two presses to repeat the entire process again.

Or, just enable the lock and unlock chirps in VAG-COM. No way of forgetting then! :D

Yeah your right, hardly a problem really. Just glad I now know its the one press. Dealers really should tell you this!! They told me how to open my boot (just in case I thought i opened the boot by using the exhaust!) but not how to lock the car properly.

So, Umm... how do you open the boot then !!!

Only kidding, you pull the rear seat down to put things in the boot Right ??

One press is easier and quicker than two presses, right?
So when you're out in the rain and cold, and all you want to do is lock your car and run inside, which is preferable? One click or two? Two clicks would also involve listening to make sure you hear the deadlocks. One click does it all for you and if you see the indicators flash, you know everything is done and safe.

And as for why you would want to disable the deadlocks, as somebody asked earlier, mainly because you have children or animals in the car and you need to leave them for a second. You don't want the alarm going off and deafening them and, should there be a problem, you don't want to trap them in a car that can't be opened in any way from the outside :)

It's no harder to press it twice as it is to press it once.
As im walking/ running away from my car i tend to press it several times in order to make sure it is definately locked(obviously that isn't the case) fair enought i may well be a case of ocd but i would prefere to be sure by doing it that way
Plus i was always under the impression of that was partly the reson for having an open and a seperate lock button, i've had cars in the past where it was one button and there fore very easy to unlock the car again after locking it.

As for leaving dead locks and alarm off if you want to leave kids in the car, Im not even a parent and i would NEVER even concidure leave andbodys kids in a cany car by their self for any length of time at all.
What if the suddenly decided to open the door and wander off down the street, any way i thought that was what the little button to the column to the drivers right was for, to disable the internal motion senors.

presuming you all have the magical ability of sight. (and if you dont how the hell did you get a licence) why not look at the car when arming it to see if its worked rather than pressing the button repeatably.

or like some have said, activate chirps for the alarm. you can even change the alarm sound, try the Asian one for a laugh.
