Hi

Can any one tell me if 17's will fit on a cupra r with those big brakes??

Reason i'm asking is for the winter, just wondering if I could get a cheap set of 17's and the rubber would be a little bit cheaper

any wisdom gratefully received

thanks

The 'right' set of 17's will fit - but you'll spend so much more on them it's not likely to be worth it

As m0rk says, the rubber would be a little bit cheaper, but the 17's would be a whole lot more expensive.

Although having said that, when it comes to winter tyres I would prefer to have winter tyres on another set of rims, rather than having to replace tyres on the same rims. Apart from the fact that wheels can be swapped at home in half an hour, but tyre swaps need assistance.

yeah thats what i was trying to weigh up, think i'll just get the 18" inch rubber and get them thrown on at the pinnacle moment.

do you know what size 18" wheel the cupra r runs? in other words maybe find a cheap set of 18's

the 17in star fish rims fit with a 10 or 15mm spacer to clear the fronts and are fine on the rear, there is some one on here who runs them in the winter and i have been thinking about it my self

Are those the wheels off the cupra's m8? Do you know of any that won't need spacers?

I was also thinking of getting some cheap aftermarket 18's but not sure of the fitment

the oem fitted are 5x100 with an et35 BUT the oem rims are made to "wrap around" the brembos, i have noticed a lot of et 35 stuff wont fit without a little spacing, worst for it are 18" reps of the BBS LM, et35 + 15mm spacer and it will clear the brembos but slightly foul the wing...
i think all of the OEM fit 17's from the vag range will be fine (unless its split rim stylie) i would think they will all need a little spacing (3 to 5mm)

i want a set of 17" LM's for mine, for some reason i like the look of chunky tires, i think its the jap car and rally car lover inside of me though

haha i'm not sure what the TT comps look like to be honest, i'm gonna look them up now :)

I'm more leaning to the idea of some good all round winter tyres and just running on them from about oct/nov through til march. then putting my old summers back on. We had a right nightmare here last winter getting around was hard work. spent most of the time going up hills backwards and running on 20 pound inflated tyres

wil the cheap aftermarket wheels on ebay fit on ok? in a 18" do you know what fitment is needed?

i put the fitment info up a couple of posts ago lol
5x100 et35, but the lcr rim is made for the brakes so the chances are you will need a little spacing
