Hi everyone,I need a huge favour,I replaced my distributor after a problem with the car cutting out.I need a picture of the top of the distributor without the cap on to show the position of the small little notch on the edge. The distributor that I was supplied does not have the notch on it so I am struggling to line up the timing which is resulting in a 5000 rpm rev limit.
All help will be greatly appreciated

the rotor arm should be at the 2 o clock position when the timing is at TDC.

Thanks for the reply ,if the rotor is at 2 0'clock position wherabouts does the black plug line up and is that position firing on number one cylinder? Thanks for the help cause this is driving me crazy not being able to rev over 5000

at about 4 o clock. mines been stuck at 5k since i bought it. ive taken it upto 6.5k using my vagcom to clear the faults but theres not that much more power up there. the dizzy cap will be at position one and line up with the rotor arm when its clipped on.

do you need to change immob when u change ecu?

Have u replaced the crankshaft sensor? The immobiliser is not in the ecu, there is a immobiliser ecu under the dashboard on the drivers side .Just to check does your distributor have 1 cutout on the hall sender disc or 4 ?Your car should only have one cutout,if it has four it causes the same 5000 rpm issue.

i think it had already been done. ive got 3 options left as ive done all the rest.
1. replace the dizzy as its faulty
2. replace crank sensor as its buggered
3. replace ecu cos pedro put it in a stupid place and killed it.
all 3 cost about the same price.

its easy as pie if you have vagcom, go into immo. click adaption. save and then yes and then click recode then yes.

My crank sensor had a hairline crack causing oil contamination of the windings, not easy to see, check the disributor hall sender blade has one gap only and not four

Wire tails had got shredded on my crank sensor, presumably by road debris at some point, and general gunge down around the area made it impossible to see that until I removed it. Don't think it's possible to do without an oil and filter change though.

Pretty sure my crank sensor was 40-45 quid, and while fiddly, easily done in an evening. I'd've thought it was much cheaper than either other option, even with oil and filter included... Bought the CKP from Andrew Page's... Still have paperwork and cat no etc if you want...

I thought CKP was the classic limiter or revs?

i changed my crank shaft sensor with filter still on, bit fiddly but is do-able.
