Hi,

Firstly just want to say hi to everyone and thanks for having me on this site!

I just took in PX a 2007 57 reg Seat leon fr 2.0t (220) with the btcc kit. 75k fsh DSG box

Its a fab car but iv noticed it seems very jumpy in reverse and 1st gear when i apply my foot on the throttle, its like it jumps one or twice sometimes 3 times before its gets going and it happens when the car warms up, and always happens from stand still unless i plant it off the mark , apart from that iv never owned a seat before and its fab,i really like it and want to know if its a car thats going to cause me issues

so please could any one give me any feedback on what it could be and rough cost estimates so i know what im looking at or if it just needs a reset etc, i would really appriciate it

Thanks in advance!

Could be the mechtronics unit Not a cheap part. I didn't have a problem on my dsg but it's a well known fault.

Have a search on the forum for it and I am sure loads of stuff will come up

Has it ever had a DSG service? Should be every 40k. May make a difference.

FWIW mine has always been jumpy in reverse, but it should creep in D smoothly all the time.(08 FR from new, now on 67k - one mechatronics replacement under warranty).

About £150. Not cheap as the oil is (or was) expensive. It should be due it's 2nd by now.

Thanks for the reply,

I mean how much is a new metronics unit from seat.

Also on the side of my front wings and boot near the fr badge it says 220, does this mean the bhp or is it a styling pack etc as im trying to look for another 220 on the internet and cant find one

I would have your software updated at a dealership before you start pointing the finger at the mechatronics unit. Mine was a little jumpy in reverse too, and the software update solved all the issues I was having. Out of interest I asked how much it would be to replace the unit ( if you wasn't under warranty).. and the tech guy said roughly £3500  However I know plenty of people who have ran with a knackered mechatronics unit for years ( providing you can live with the issues )

Oh and an FR220 never existed, only an FR 550. So the previous owner has put them there.

thanks for the reply... much appriciated!

is this certain that if i carry on driving it it wont break anything else or get worse?

do you think awsome gti will have a software update? as i have got it booked in for a full service with them ?

Also so the 220 are just stickers added on? the cheeky begegr told me its a special edition and was 220 bhp lol, so what sort of bhp would mine be? its totally standard with no mods.

200hp. 198 actually.
Bit odd to try to sell it as a "special edition" when it's not

Awesome gti won't have the DSG software update. That's a SEAT dealer jobbie

If it is the mech unit, it will either get worse progressively over a long period of time...so much so that you can live with it until you get rid, or it'll start doing things like dropping into neutral or jumping in 1st or 2nd in slow traffic. At which point you need it replaced and you're better off trading it in to a dealer who doesn't check the car before trading

How are you finding the switch from rear wheel to front wheel drive? Very different in my opinion.

As for the DSG, get it in with a SEAT dealer ASAP and get them to service your DSG, and upload new software. Shouldn't be more than 175 quid or so. The DSG service is expensive, as said above, because of the price of the oil (100 quid!)

Might be worth asking the to confirm whether it had been remapped before. Might be worth then sticking the stock map on again if necessary.

cheers for your help,

its a big step from my bmws but iv kinda grown out of big speeds etc so it doesnt really bother me anymore.

i was going to send it to awsome for a dsg service but i think its worth sending it to the steelers instead, will they charge for the software update?

Sounds exactly the same problem as I had unfortunately. It was a mechatronics unit. Luckily I managed to get it under warranty rather shelling out £2k.

It used to kangaroo from starting off and going up ramps in multi-storey car parks. A bit like a learner driver kangaroos at the lights. In reverse it also surged quite a bit making it a bit tricky to parallel park - you just don't know if its going to launch back and smash up the car behind.

One thing to bear in mind - does it only do it when you quickly change from reverse into D? Apparently 1st and reverse are on the same shaft in the gearbox and that can cause it to be a bit jumpy if you change quickly and start off.

Also, I was a bit dubious about what the dealer had done so I took it for some other warranty work at a different dealer and they checked the software for free.

Good luck.

As above really, if you can live with the issues then its not going to cause terminal damage, its just god damn annoying and makes you look silly in traffic etc. Check its history, does it have full seat dealership service history? If so, Seat will usually make a goodwill gesture in most cases towards the cost of a replacement, usually around 40-50% of the total cost, if it indeed does need a new mechatronics. Awesome GTI don't do software updates and I wouldn't really recommend them for servicing either, in most cases they are dearer than the dealer and I'm not convinced on their worksmanship based on my experiences. Get it all done at the dealership ( DSG Service and then a software update which is usually free if you are polite ). I hope this fixes your issues, if not then its going to be a hefty bill :(
