Hi all,

Does anyone know how I can connect my iPod classic to my audio system so that I can control it via the steering wheel control?

I bought second hand so no cable came with it. I have tried one of the cheap cables from eBay but did not control the ipod, it only played sound and charged the device

Many thanks in advance

Matt

Assuming you have an MDI socket in your car you need an MDI to iPod cable.
If you only have USB socket then the original cable for the iPod may work.

Not sure, in the glove box I have a USB connection and a 3.5mm aux input if that helps. Standard ipod cable returns an error.

Thanks

Must admit don't know if they had MDI in these cars it's an elongated socket about 30mm long as a guess and maybe 5 to 10mm wide. Try the original lead that came with the iPod in the USB socket. Mine works with this ('16 MY)
Sorry just saw your edit.

I bought the BMW one for our Mk2 , that worked fine with an iPod touch and a shuffle. Connects to both USB and 3.5mm jack. Must admit I thought that all early Mk3's came with an MDI socket in the glove box.

I got a cheap one off ebay, think it was the BMW one also. Works fine in my mk2 and I get full control of iPod through the interface.

I'll post the link to the one I got later on. If it's anything like the mk2 it will say "MDI" in the interface in the media section on the display (I've got the RNS-315)

I have USB and aux in within the glove box. Can't see mdi anywhere, what does this look like?

My audio display doesn't mention mdi either. Ipod doesn't doesn't work in USB.

Thanks
