8v GTI cutting out

My 8v GTI has been cutting out recently, not on a regular basis, maybe once every couple of weeks. But yesterday, it done it 5 times in a row! I've checked the leads, all seem ok, but what else should i check on my day off tomorrow?

Spark plugs?
Coilpack?
Coil?

For the last 2, is there any visual way of telling if the parts have failed?

I had a search, couldn't find anything concrete. How much am i looking at for a new crank sensor, oh knowledgeable one?

you'll never find anything concrete regarding electrical faults.
sensor price? god knows, depends on which you buy?
OEM £90 ish from memory? then the pain in the arse job of fitting it.
oil filter off, front engine mount i think from when garage did it, not much room down there.

Dirty throttle body?

Quite a common cause and free

I thought it could be that, just trying to see how i can tell if it is the coil or the crank sensor? Don't wanna replace something if i don't need to?

Cleaned it not long ago so can't see it being that, but i'll double check tomorrow
